I'm now certain the real problem in this game is the horrible dialogue for the main character. You either sound like an 80s porn star or a whiny effeminate pansy for the male. There was an option for you to kill a NPC in Orlais - its not you whipping out a sword and decapitating him with a manly grunt, your character instead (in a hilarious higher pitched shrill tone) says "He insulted my honour. Kill him"! The dialogue options are way worse than DA: 2. Its flowery and wordy and what seems to be the Western impression of medieval dialogue. They should have just copied Spartacus: Blood and Sand - %$!@ this and $%#! that and why the @$#! is that there? Forget the controls, its the dialogue really. There is a disconnect, and no nuance. You wouldn't speak like that.

That said, 25hrs in and I'm now at Skyhold and this game really is epic. Can't fault it there. RAM usage cracks 3GB, VRAM hits 3GB, and my 5930K is consistently loaded up across all 6 cores.

As awesome as that show was, I think it'd push DAI up into the AO rating.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to best use my stat options. As a Knight-Enchanter, I do most my damage with the spirit blade. Looking at the stat descriptions, it says magic helps attack and spells, and attack % increases damage.

Now, does that attack % only help weapon damage, or does it also increase spell damage, and how much does magic help spell damage?

I have a grip or blade attachment that has 5% attack and 6% crit chance and another option for 6 magic. I can't decide what is better. Has anyone figured how the stats work?

Enjoying but dam- how hard is it for the companions to do what you ask them to do. Simple stuff like hold position - they totally ignore. Trying to set up a "chase me trap" for a baddie- but noooo my idiot companions come out at soon as I hit him for the first time so he is too far away for the tank to even hurt him. and now there is no line-up of them for a arrow to get thru a bunch of them with extra bonuses. Really bad - Would be better to play without companions sometimes. Whole party just died after I opened a door- they all charge in - push me with them ( yes I told them to hold position ) DUH!!! Pretty bad when Hurlocks can ambush and kill party.

Has anyone actually finished this game? It seems so huge. According to Origin I've put in 31 hours and I feel like I'm not even close to finishing it. In terms of content this seems to be one of the biggest games I've ever seen.

This game is really growing on me. I mean, yes, there's definitely room for improvement, but damn, this game is huge.

Also, agree on the main character voicing. I miss my sarcastic Hawke (one of my favorites). The new one doesn't really come close, despite me pushing every sarcastic response I can.

Makes me look forward to Witcher 3 even more :awe:

I think for Hold Position to stick, you have to be in combat and make sure you stay in combat

I haven't used it in combat, but out of combat, hit hold twice, and they hold their position. Once combat starts, they may still try to run towards you.

If you go into the behavior tab after pressing "p", you can adjust who and how they follow (I haven't check to see how detailed of options there are). You might find something to help out there.

Yeah, I am seeing this too. Commands and so forth don't seem to 'work right' when you are not in combat.

I feel the tactical camera works 'OK' but not great. Definitely not as intuitive or polished as DA:O.

Anyone else remember soloing a lot of parts within DA:O to lure enemies toward your group, setting traps, etc. Doing that seems like a lot more effort here in DA:I. Not terrible, but not great either.

So are all the areas you unlock in the war room supposed to be explored? Are there optional ones? I'm a little confused since a few areas opened up at the same time for me and I dunno if there is a specific order I am supposed to go in or if I should skip someplace.

I never played that way in Dragon Age, nor any other single player RPG unless I'm desperate, most likely due to creating a weak party, but I've definitely done that on MMO's or PvP type RPG's.

But like I mentioned before, the party will stay put if you press hold twice. I'm not sure if that is intentional or not, but it was required to get past a puzzle quest (no combat) that I ran into. Once combat starts, they may still come to you.

You might also want to press "P" and check out the behavior tab. I'm not sure what all the follow options they have, but there are some customization options there.

There are optional areas, and there are areas you can't even visit, but are there to get resources, gold or reputation (maybe more) by using one of your ambassadors. The icons shown give you an idea on how important they are.

This.

Also, early-on your 'Power' may not be sufficient to explore everywhere until your party gets a little more leveled (7+ or so) to comfortably handle more difficult areas.

I realized yesterday that the requisition quests are repeatable in some areas (Sword Coast was an example) to allow you to generate power from relatively easy to get materials. This helps prevent the occasion where a user spends all their power and cannot continue the main quest. Good way to structure this IMHO.

The power/influence thing is REALLY cool. Enjoying the tactical nature of applying resources to missions and opening-up additional areas and quests. Like it a lot.

what am I missing with this? I'm at level 9, have talked to the council thingy and have opened up some of the additional maps/missions (The Mire, the Storm Coast, the Desert area thingy), but when it comes to these missions, I'm not applying resources to anything...is there some option that I am missing?

I've been spending the influence points on inquisitor traits for my party, for the most part, and haven't spent much time looking at the other tiers. The requisition crafts don't seem to do much of anything but grant a power point, no?

I guess I am expecting more inquisition presence the more I claim territory or establish camps on maps, but I don't really see that--something like more patrols, the camps improving from time to time (A merchant/smith would be nice, damnit!).

Though, it's nice to see that when you clear some of the spots, like mage and templar camps, those enemies don't return.

Something you guys may want.

http://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/2mm319/dragon_age_inquisition_30fps_cutscene_framerate/

My 290X at 1440p and Ultra presets usually managed ~50fps in most gameplay and its plenty playable, but when it switches to the 30fps cutscenes, its jarring to the eyes.

Worked like a charm, thanks!

For some reason I pasted the command line in my game shortcut on my desktop but that was not really working. I added the line in the Origin game properties and the cutscenes are now smooth as they can be, thanks a lot!

By 'resources' I don't mean materials, etc. but agents. You get to select different agents for different missions and ultimately open-up different things to do. I like that.

As for perks, I have had a lot of success opening-up ones that provide dialogue options for magic, history/royalty or underworld. That gives some cool quests and additional operative options too.

Seconded. This is a feature I really like in DAI as well.

It's not a single-player RPG...it's not an MMO but it's not a 'single adventurer' RPG (like ES series), you have a team. Tactics are a lot of fun to try-out different parties, rather than just power-groups (mages, for example, in the first game). Games where you just plow-through them are pretty boring IMHO. Try that method in BG1/2 or ID1/2 and see how far you get.

I had a lot of fun almost soloing most of DA:O with my rogue, but splitting the team and exploring with the controls and choices is rather poor this time around, unfortunately.

Combat tip. If a party member dies, have Varrik go stealth and revive them. Works great.

Tip 2, pause often and issue commands for the tough fights, treat them almost like a turn based game.

I finished it in about 45 hours, but still had quite a few side quests left to do and left one area completely unexplored. Although, I did 100% three areas.

OK will try the Hold position button 2 times to see if that works. Yes- I do have a "weak" team as I traditionally like bow rogue characters. But weak early levels off to average later. I "like" outsmarting enemies instead of over powering them. So, in Origins I did the bait "me" and lead enemies into a trap where my companions are waiting and in cover surrounding them regularly. This is proving to be a very difficult thing to do in Inquisition.

OK but I am level 10 and last night (because I wasn't paying attention) I had two areas open from the war room quests that are explorable I think (it asks me if I want to gather my party and venture there). I didn't know if I should go to every area or if there were important ones that I should definitely not miss because of some materials or items available there.

Also, does each area have a dragon? I am gonna go back to the hinderlands and kill that one but I was curious if each area had one somewhere on the map. Just for future reference when I decide yo hunt them all down for materials.
