bolomite:

If you consider the DC to be Saturn-like, you're obviously wrong.

Bolomite, you need to learn to forgive and forget. The Dreamcast is one of the best consoles EVER.

We shall see, however, how it stands up to the PS2. The DC is a lot more "players" oriented. 4 controller sockets, analog triggers, its the feature packed console that adds to the experience due to its features. PS2 has only more power, 2 controller sockets, no analog buttons, (or at least not ones that you will be able to use effectively) a lack of a multiplayer plan, and a lack of launch consoles in the US.

The only problem with Dreamcast is I completed most games in a week or less time (of those games that can actually could be completed), and then the DC became very lonely and dusty once again.

In my opinion Sega made a big mistake by not putting a DVD drive on Dreamcast. If this would've happened, DC would've certainly sold a low more because of it's low price combined with movie playback capabilities, and developers wouldn't be dropping the console as a "marginal playform" as is unfortunately happening all the time.

Promedia2? The 3D processor they have in DC is equivalent to KYRO, which is like as fast as a GF2 MX.

i got a dc, i think the controller on it owns the s*it outa the ps (same as ps2) dual shock controller.. the only thing im gonna miss is not getting to play gt 2000 (no matter, my friend will have a ps2 soon). so far my fav games are soul calibur, virtual on, silent scope (whoops, that one isint released yet, hehe), and i cant remember any other ones (allready got a stack of burnt ones that i dont even play cause they suck [in this stack is ecco, which blows a$$ imho])

i cant wait untill EB gets that racing game in stock, i forget what its called but u can choose from 150 diff cars, sounds like the sega version of grand turismo to me(i love and own both gt 1 and 2 for the ps)

the other thing im gonna love is the bleemcast, lets u play ps games on dreamcast with better gfx =P~~~~

and that $200 us pricetag is just wrong, i paid 199 for it in canada, thats less than 150 in us currency.

The DC is a great console. There are a lot of games and plenty of them are fun. Remember, sports games and other genre such as skateboarding are always a lot better on a console rather than the pc. You might want to hold off the the PS2, but you wont be sorry if you get a dreamcast

can somebody tell me how you guys burn "backups" of Dreamcast games? I thought it was not possible because of the propietary copy protection system used on the Gd-rom (Dreamcast propietary cd format) Please could you provide a link? I'm curious on how to do it.
Thanks

They do use GD-ROM, which is 1GB. But it was nothing special about it, it was just an extremely large CD-ROM disk. And since most of the game makers aren't using all the space, many games ended up being 700MB or less, so that made it possible to be duplicated.

DVD playback wouldn't be horrible on DreamCast if it had some form of hardware assistance. I'm sure a DSP chip doing iDCT for MPEG2 decompression would enable Dreamcast's 200Mhz SH4 RISC handle the rest. After all, DC's processor is much more powerful than x86 CPUs in floating point math, it peaks at 1.4GFLOPS.

wow, thanks for the replies,

one of you said that it runs a permidia2/200mhz, isn't it 300mhz first off all? But like I got Demolition Derby no exit, and the fps suck they are always falling with glitches (which means that it's not usually higher than 25-30fps) Maybe I have a faulty DC, I will try to exchange mine.

Do you guys think that with the release of the ps2, developers will stop making games for it, especially after the xbox/nin cube comes out?

I don't think they make n64 games anymore, unless, it's made by Nintendo.

"Promedia2? The 3D processor they have in DC is equivalent to KYRO, which is like as fast as a GF2 MX."

quite amazing what you can do with that eh? Gigapixel's starting to look mighty savoury right about now to nVidia!

heh, I'm really biased when it comes to consoles.. I almost always go for the underdog! right now, Sega is the underdog, even though their system has been out for a while. I truly hope it will become the console to get for at least a little while (a year or two).

I don't have to worry about Nintendo doing good or bad, they cater to a different market. the young market. however when they DO make games for people my age, they do them very well. Nintendo will be one of the best console makers for a long time, for that age group.

as for MS, and Sony, I don't really care, they have money to throw at everything. I just hope they don't put Sega or Nintendo out of business.

COOL!!!!!!! NOW PUT UP A XBOX/GAMECUBE/PS2 SPECS TOO!!!!!!!!

Say, it really has FSAA?!?! I can't tell because of the tv's scan lines.

<< Oh yeah, Dead or Alive 2 is absolutely amazing for DC!!!!!!!!! >>

Yeah, the real world "physics" rock.

Get a DC. For $150 you can't get a decent videocard for the PC. Only problem is that you can't watch TV and game at the same time.

I got my PS2 and I love it. I have no problems with it and it plays smooth with PS/PS2 games and DVD movies. I am now in search of a kick ass surround sound system.

But as far as a Dreamcast goes.... I would still love to get one but not at the price it is right now. I love those Capcom games and I don't have a memory card for my ps2...

I have had a Dreamcast since it first shipped, and absolutely love it. There are a lot of good games for it, with more on the way. I am skipping the PS2, but will be getting an XBox.
