The bed is something you never skimp on. It's a lesson hard learned.

IKEA buddy, IKEA!

One of the things I said to myself when I bought my house, was... no ikea stuff.

they look good but are so cheaply produced

But do they last long, or your bed going to break after couple months?

Just wondering since I might be buying a cheap condo soon.

IKEA stuff lasts just fine. But as I mentioned before, find an independent dealer that will order from the manufacturer for you; get quality hardwood furniture for a lot less than any B&M chain store.

Wow, just wow.

1. Crate and Barrel = Pottery Barn or any other place like that.

2. Pottery Barn or any other place like that = trash

3. Trash = MDF with veneers which will look like arse in 10 years

4. Amish furniture FTW

Essentially, you just got bent over, reamed with an MDF/Veneer broompole, and robbed by a imitation high-end furniture store that sells nothing more than cheap mass-manufactured trash. Meanwhile, you could have spent a bit more (or less if you go to Amish craftsmen) and gotten MUCH better somewhere else.

I laugh at you.

So he's not getting much better stuff than IKEA?

The funny thing about Ikea is that a lot of their stuff is actually solid wood. It's not solid hard wood, like Oak, Cherry, or Mahogany, but it's pine and such. Furthermore, it's decent quality.

For example, my wife wanted a TV stand from Pottery Barn for $999. I saw one online from Ebay that was damaged on top. Nothing more than Oak veneer with trash MDF underneath. I went to the store to check it out, sure enough, almost everything was veneer. Utter trash.

All of these "high end" stores are like that. Havertys and such included.

Personally, I am buying the Ikea Markor entertainment center for now. $570 gets you two book cases, a decent tv stand. It'll be enough for us since we are averaging a move every 2 years.

When I get ready I'll buy some nice cherry furniture from some PA Amish. Heck, my brother bought a 8' solid-oak (1" solid top) dining table and 7 solid oak chairs for $1,200 from an Amish dude in MN.

Not to threadcrap dude, but you just got hosed.

You think they made the frame well? Quality long lasting leather? Springs? Padding?

After they try to pawn off cheap trash in their regular furniture you seriously think they won't do the same in their couches? That couch is just as trashy as the rest of their furniture.

I just dropped $1500 on a sleeper sofa, loveseat, double recliner with center console, and storage ottoman. Bought this house nearly two years ago, and we've been using furniture that was free or really cheap for the last seven years, so it should be nice to have good, new stuff. Expensive, but not as bad as it could be

That's the whole point. It *LOOKS* good, it *FEELS* good, but it's all MDF underneath. That's all veneers do, make everything look sexy but all you got underneath is compressed sawdust and glue.

I guess the whole point is that if you lay down 4,300 for something you don't have to worry about them replacing it. Otherwise, why buy something like that?

It's like these morons who buy high-end unreliable cars and then b!tch when it sits in the garage for weeks. Well, you shouldn't have been a doof in the first place.

Probably around $500 for my whole house and most of that was bought by my parents . Very little of the furniture in my house is new. Just about all of it came from garage sells, goodwill/salvation army, or was just something somebody else was giving away. I have three big dogs so buying nice new furniture would just be a waste of money. A lof of people get new furniture ever year or two just because they can so you can get some really nice stuff used. My brand new looking couch and chair were $100 and probably cost well over $1k new.

Well, at least high end model cars come with style and excitement!

I just cant justify spending $4k on a couch. It just something you sit on.

I can justify it, but not from C&B or Pottery Barn. Ethan Allen, probably. It's all a matter of relative value.

It's like when my wife and I were up in NYC the last time. We were in times square looking for some eats. Saw TGIF and went in. A burger was $17. I called BS and just got up and left (much to my wife's chagrin). We walked half a block and went to an Irish pub. A burger was $8 and was 100x better than some pre-made trash TGIF burger.

I'll pay $17 for a damn good burger, but no way in hell I will pay $17 for a TGIF burger. It's all relative value.

How about looking somewhere else for furniture. Doesn't have to be Ikea but for the prices that you're willing to pay you can probably get high quality stuff from elsewhere for a whole lot less.
