Futon with mattress $35 from thrift store
New mattress $112 from Big Lots
Ikea couch $65 from thrift store (the exact same couch that we were looking at online, just needs a cover)
end table $15 from thrift store
2 black bookshelves $29 each from Wal-mart
Pub style table and chairs $100 from Linens and Things
Fold out bar $89 from Target (originally $320 and we needed more counter space)

Things we still need: dresser, bed, coffee table, tv stand.

Personally I HATE the "proper" furniture I've seen in most furniture stores, big brown wood and over stuffed couches don't do it for me or my gf.

I have a wraparound couch almost exactly the same as the one you bought. It cost me $2100.00 CDN funds brand new. I think you got ripped off.

I'm sure it's been said but crate and barrel is not somewhere to go if you're looking to save money.

We bought some Seaman's and Levitz furniture to fill 3 rooms (dining room + 2 living areas) and it cost less than $6k.
