That's one of the advantages of 19-inch LCD panels for many people. They give the largest character size of virtually any flat panel monitor. When you go to the 1600x1200 of the 20-inch panels, the actual screen size of characters gets a little smaller.

QFT.

My eyesight is a bit weak and I really like the text size on my 1905FP as compared to a friend's 17" LCD at same res of 1280x1024.

Well I just canceled the order. I figured wtf, just save a little more and splurge on the 2001 or the 2407 when it comes out and it gets a few good reviews. As it stands, the 2007 has a really bad banding issue and that seems to be with almost all models.

Smaller monitor but better pic quality + res + Bright Coating > Dell

Downgrading from 20" Widescreen to 17" but no regrets

the 1907's are the new ones, 1000:1 contrast, 5ms response, Samsung panels. The quality of them unbeatable for the price. A majority of the people getting the 1907's are reporting they're getting this panel http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/...ors_n_Industrial/LTM190EX/LTM190EX.htm . both mine are that panel.

I just wish I had more screen resolution on one monitor.

Are these 6-bit panels like in the Samsung 930B? The ones that give horrible color?

I'm not gonna say 1907s suck, but I'm guessing htey probably do. I've used a 2405, 2005, and my parents own a 2405.

I have tried the 6-bit panels by Samsung (2 x 930Bs) and I hated them.

Once you get a good panel (Viewsonic VP191b, comparable to VP930b or Samsung 193P) then you will NEVER EVER turn back to those crappy@$$ panels.

That said, this panel is fvcking cheap. I paid like $350 for my monitor? Wait.. more like $400.

Wrong? Widescreen 19" panels (at least most of the ones I've seen) are 1440x900.

I wish people would stop spreading myths about screen resolution and text size. It's like saying a 1200dpi printer should be avoided because the text would be too small, so we should all stick to 180dpi dot matrix printers. What nonsense. The printer adjusts the font size automatically, but windows doesn't. You need to spend a whopping few minutes getting the screen dpi adjusted in the control panel. Once you set it to your liking, you relax and enjoy the smooth high density picture that is displayed.

LCD monitors only *one* resolution where the picture will look best, while you can change resolutions the picture will not look as good. That is most likely what furballi was referring to before you dumped on him Furballi 1, vegetation 0

You can adjust the font size in Windows, but it doesn't look pretty right now. Some apps on my PC (like Intel Audio Studio) won't even run if you crank up the DPI to 120, and most others find some way to not display menus and toolbars properly. Also, for some reason all the icons wind up looking like ass if you use 120DPI. It also screws up the rendering of a lot of web pages as well, and even messes up some of the combo boxes on web forms.

Until Vista brings real resolution independence to Windows, I just don't find adjusting the DPI in Windows to be a viable option after all the issues had with it.

Meh, try 1920x1200 on a 15.4" monitor. I love it; a 19" at 1280 would be horribly huge; if you can see the pixels, you should chuck the monitor. That's my theory.

I've got 3 Dell LCDs made by Samsung which seems to be a very common supplier for Dell monitors.
My next hope is to get a 2405, when prices drop.
It will replace 2 of my video rig LCDs. At the present, my screen resolution is 3840x1024 in stretched mode.
So 1280x1024 per screen is still very comfortable for video editing.
My old eyes are very comfortable at those resolutions.
My screen resolution on my 21" Rasterops is 1600x1200, but with a larger screen, that's expected.
Having a higher resolution is surely nonsensical for a small screen. You'll need a manifying glass to read the text alone.
If you need a purely gaming monitor, then the 19" Viewsonic VX922 with 2ms response time is your baby.
Any other lcd will be mostly for popularity.
