Dual Athlon PC Feasible?

I'd like to build a new comp soon and would like to build a dual cpu system. Since I run win2k server and run a lot of different things at once, I think I would highly benefit from the dual cpus. My question is though is there any decent dual cpu mobo's out for the personal sector? I need to be able to have a decent computer I can play games on and do work on. Any recommendations on a dual athlon mobo? If not I guess I will just go with a single athlon on a KT333 board.

I'm typing this on a dual 1800+ system.

I believe the Tyan Tiger MP/MPX series are still the most prevalent, but there are other boards out there for less cash as well.

Asus and MSI both have very good dual boards that are rated above the Tyan in recent reviews.

Dual Opterons are going to be expensive I bet and it won't be for almost 18 months til there worthwhile to get unless you've got a truckload of cash and don't mind using whatever basic motherboard is out first.

Dual Athlon CPUs are feasible just go to www.2cpu.com they have all kinds of data on what you are looking for

In what way do you run W2K server? Is it the kind of role you can leave it alone with much of the time? How about two separate computers? Compared to a single CPU box, you would spend probably an extra $250 buying a dual board, powerful PSU, an extra case fan and large case. But the KT333 is tuned much better to memory and AGP performance than the AMD chipsets.

I am running dual XP1800+ on an Asus A7M266-D. I use the PC for games with no problem. Of course the Radeon 8500 helps out too.

I plan on going from my dual P3 to a dual athlon xp this summer, and I will b esticking with Asus because their dual boards are rock solid... the only other manufacturer that I really would consider a dual board from is probably supermicro, though MSI and Tyan have a lot of promise.... but the A7M266-D sounds more appealing.

I was really crossing my fingers that a 333 dually board would be out soon, but I havent read any outlooks that predict the like.

You also need to be aware that if you want dual XPs then you will have to unlock the CPU....they stopped making the XPs SMP capable a few weeks ago, they want to boost the MP market.

INNOKA: are you saying you think it would cost less to build 2 seperate computers than one dually? The only thing that costs more with a dually rig is the cost of the second processor, which is usually not 250 bucks. Case fans and case sizes hardly play a role unless you were heartset on using your old mATX case or something. And PSUs need to be 400w and AMD approved for a dual athlon, which is becoming steadily more common even in single CPU systems, not to mention really not that expensive if you are buying a quality PSU anyways. I didnt write this biased towards duallys, I just fail to see your point.
