Dual Celeron on a GA-686DL2

Does anyone know if you can put two Celeron processor's (via Slotket adapters) onto the Gigabyte 686DL2 m/b? I am interested in using a couple 700Mhz Cel's on my system to give it a small upgrade from the dual P2-266's on it now. I don't want a new board since it would cost too much to upgrade memory (256mb) and get the board. I can throw two Cel's on there for under $200US, which I can probably do. I just want to know if this has been done or can be done.

Celeron 700s can't work in dual.. or not yet at least.

What si the fastest Cel that can do dual then? The 566?

celeron 2's are not smp capable, this includes ALL celerons from 533A and up. This means that only the celeron processors based on the .25 micron process rated 533mhz and lower are smp capable. If you want smp on a socket 370 board go with a pair of p3 500 or 550. they will outpreform the 66mhz fsb celeron 2's at 700mhz for only slightly more money. In this instance however you would probably see better preformance from one processor clocked at 850+

OK, so 533 is the highest Cel that is still dual capable? If I can save enough, I may just wait and put together a Dual PIII-800 (133 bus) on a MSI 694D-AIR Pro board and get 256mb generic PC133 for it. I think I figured that this would be just under $700US. I think it may also be better in the long run as well since I should be able to puch over 1G on that board as well, and it'll have firewire, ATA100 RAID, etc built in.

try and find like a pair of 366s almost all of htem will over clock to 550/100 and they will work in Duals you can even get them Slot1 rather than Socket370 adapters, and they should be dirt cheap.

It's like modemmix said, all the newer Celly2s are no good for SMP.

But yeah for the long run i'd try and save and go Dual P3-800 or maybe even dual Durons if you are willing to wait a while (should only be 2 or 3months now).
