dual channel or not?

acer laptop, centrino chip, it came stock with 256mb x 2. I went ahead and got a 1gb x1 stick for it. everything is the same speed, and dual channel is supported.

would it be advised to run 1 GB + 256mb in the slots or just stick with 1GB

You won't see much if any difference with Dual Channel in the laptop. There is enough memory bandwidth through one stick, so dual-channel won't really do anything.
