Dumb question about memory

I have an Asus A7M266 running a 1.4 Ghz classic Athlon. Currently I have 256 MB of PC2100 ram. I would like to upgrade the amount of ram in my machine. Now do I have to buy PC2100 memory or can I buy some cheaper PC2700 memory on sale near me and just run it along side the PC2100. According to the last specs posted by Asus it can only run PC1700 and PC2100 memory but I thought maybe the memory would just run at the slower speed.????

yup, that is certainly something you can do. DDR ram is all backwards compatible and can be run at lower speeds.
