This game majorly owns IMO. Take the isometric view of Diablo 2 and the hectic pace and incredible graphics of Serious Sam, and you'll have a pretty good idea or what you're in for. Some of the monsters you fight are truly innovative, on the scale of some of the weirder stuff from the Final Fantasy series, while others are old faithfuls from previous titles brought to life again with more polys. Don't look for too much enemy AI in this game though, the monsters are pretty much all "run-and-gun" with the occasional creature retreating if he's outnumbered, which is rare in itself.

I think the true power of this game lies in the upcoming mods and "dungeon sieglets" for it. While the content that comes in the box is great, the stuff people are going to create in the coming months, fully user created worlds with pretty much the ability to do anything you want, are going to be the real gold in this vault.

I don't normally like this sort of game, and, don't shoot me, but I didn't care for Diablo at all, but since Chris Taylor was a really cool guy to talk with when he ate lunch next to us at last year's E3, I picked it up, and last night I played it till until I died, and I have to tell you I love it! Fantastic graphics, very easy to use interface, a big thumbs up so far!

That is an excellent (and funny) review a few posts up. The game is very linear, simplistic and filled with beautiful graphics and animation and we're just along for the ride. I play it every day

Screen shots don't do this game justice. You really have to play it to see how incredible the graphics are. It's a little too linear (so far), and not quite as much role playing as I would have hoped for. But I can't stop playing it once I start. 2 thumbs up.

Its a good game but too linear. Non stop fighting too. Its basically go from one town to another, clear the monsters in between.

Good game. Definently worth buying. I can see where they could have done things better, but overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. I played it from 2:00 when I got it till 10:00 tonight, and then started on my homework. WHich sucked, btcause I have a 3 page paper due and a lot of reading.

My preliminary evaluation would be YaY, but I'm still near the beginning areas exploring. I haven't had the time to give it my total addiction with Homm4 out at the same time.

I was skeptical because I hated D2. I bought into the hype though. I am not dissapointed.

I would campare it to evil islands before I compared it to D2.

So far I love it. Interface is one of the best I have seen in a game. graphics are pretty sweet.

I just got my first party member which seems to have a slight learning curve. My gut tells me I want to play this game with just 1 character, and multiclass. But I read alot of people say that you need the party to get full enjoyment from the game.. decisions decisions.

I played the game for about 3 hours straight, right up until i died... and i really have no desire to play it any more. Only have 4 specialties? Man I was hoping for way more customization. Also, highest framerate i've seen is 30fps (this is on a high end computer w/ GeForce4 Ti4600) and I get around 28 (with a p4 1.6a @2.13, 512MB PC2700 DDR, and Radeon 8500).

Eh, I suppose i should play quite a bit more before i say it sucks or anything, it was quite fun, but very repetitive.

I get about 20-30 with everything all the way up with an Athlon 800 and a geforce2 Ultra. And on a 1.4 Athlon with a geforce2 go in my laptop almost exactly the same. Multiplayer (2 players) has very occaisionally hiccups, but single (8 chars) really burns it and I gotta turn it down. I like the multi version but wish that you could have a pack mule in multi. Other than that I'm waitin for a patch because it has some bugs. Sometimes cant pickup gold from chests, and I'm sure that they will change some of the stuff for balance. Mage spells cost too much if your magic levels get too high by equipping certain items. I think the editor is going to be really cool, haven't seen it yet. Overall pretty decent but not as good as Diablo II with expansion. Does look really nice though.

By mage spells, I'm assuming you ment both combat and magic spells. Yes they begin to cost more mana as your level increases, but I wouldn't consider that a bug. If your character is geared towards straight out casting, then their int will easily keep up with the mana increases due to items with +combat/nature.

I have a level 63 arch master in multiplayer.

Was wondering about that... I average in the mid to high 20s in FPS on my system, which seems a little low:

1.133 Ghz CPU
GeForce2 Ultra
512 MB PC133 CAS 2 RAM

In some map areas, I'm in the 40s and 50s to low 60s FPS. But with the camera panned all the way back and running Dungeon Siege at 1024x768x32 with Environmental Audio activated, I average in the mid to high 20s.

Wonder if it's frame limited like Diablo 2 was.

Thanks,
PCM

Love the game. The forumula is great (I like hack 'n slash) and the visuals are gorgeous. Framerate isn't as high as I'd like. Duron 950, Kyro2, 256MB DDR gets me 20-25 FPS on average at 800x600x32, but it's definitely playable. The framerate increases in the menu, but it's still surprisingly low. Guess it's time to upgrade...

It's very pretty, and quite an effective time-waster.

But it's very buggy. The forums are full of people discussing the various ways this game can crash, freeze, corrupt your pagefile, etc. I myself had one of the game files in my saves folder get corrupted, with the result that the game wouldn't start at all.

Hopefully they'll get a good patch out soon. It will be much more fun to play without all the intermittent crashes.

Maetryx here,

I've had this game for a few days now. So far I've gone through two "dungeons", each with a town at the exit point. Features that are really cool:
1) multiple party members
2) easy to configure default actions of the party members
3) donkeys(!) for carrying treasure
4) hirelings available for additional party members (but I blew my money on the donkeys(!))
5) spell book system is intuitive and forgiving (inscribing a spell to your spell book is not permanent)
6) Graphics are more remeniscent of Black & White than Diablo. Like a limited Black & White (you can't zoom out to the stratosphere, nor into the indivual blades of grass).

I finally have it. I was a little worried when UPS delivered the box, and half of it was smashed in. But I decided to accept it anyway. Then I got more worried when I opened the box and saw that the DS box was also very smashed up. But then I opened that box and found that the jewel case had saved the CDs. So far I've played for 45 minutes, and it hasn't been anything spectacular. But I said the same thing about Jedi Knight II.

well...after almost a week the game is out now...many people have and own it..including me....

It's a nice game if you know what you're getting and dont have wrong expectations.

Its definetly not a very deep, atmospheric "RPG"...way no....it's a very linear and very action focused Hack'nSlash game.

Monster AI is very lame....you primarly walk thru the world and slash/wack your way thru hordes of monsters.

The gfx and especially the music is VERY nice..almost STUNNING....although i am very disappointed with the poor "voice" support...eg. only a few characters have voices....some only give you text...thats very lame considering the game comes on two CDs....

Dont get me wrong...i will continue playing....but i miss some depth, some "substance" with this game...anyway it might get better with multiplayer and maybe in later chapters/levels.....i dont know...

there are some serious flaws reeported especially under WinXP...framerates are far less than eg. under 98. Meaning: I think the game is still playable and nice to look at....but there might be something up peole with really good and fast PCs running WinXP get rather poor performance...

Still...a "good" game...but also making me looking forward now to the other upcoming RPG killers like "Morrowind" and "Neverwinter Nights"..oups..the comparison itself may be wrong....DS is definetly no "RPG"

I think the "siegelets" will be worth buying the game for alone, but I do enjoy the single player so far.

Although, as some one else said, I could care less about any of the characters in the game. Whatever happened to the old FF3 style game where you actually liked the characters you were playing?

Being that your character files are stored internally and those are the same characters you use in an online game, this game is going to see far worse cheating and hacking than Diablo II.

Hey, I haven't played it yet, but I just picked up a copy at Fry's Electronics for only $29.99! Fry's seems to have every new game for a pretty decent price these days. This doesn't help anyone who doesn't have a Fry's nearby, but for those that do this is a great price.
