I have a Duron 700@950, Tai Sol cooler, running 1.85 VCore. Ambient case temp is 30C and CPU temp when idle is 48C...sound safe? I know I need to lower the voltage, but I can't get it to post below 1.825V right now...I'll try to lower the voltage in a couple of days after it burns in.

Anyways...is 48C at idle safe?

Using the Tai Sol CEK733. It's been pretty stable so far. As far as temp at full load goes, after running a few timedemos in Q3 it goes up to 51C. I haven't had a chance to really get into some hardcore gaming to really put a huge load on it.

Mine @936 was past 52 at full load, I went back to 900 and am actually waiting for the new hsf to come by ups.

Mine is running stable at 45C idle, 47C full load (Quake 3 Arena). Ran Prime 95's torture test for 8 hours straight and it passed every test. Temp never went over 48C. I've had it for 2 months, and everything is rock solid stable using Vantec's big blue Socket A cooler.

Hmmm... My Duron 800mhz (8x100 week 31 1.70vcore on an Abit kt7 UL bios) runs 33C ambient and 38C under Quake3/heavy load (I find that Homeworld Cataclysm actually raises it more, to 39C, but that may just be the time of day or something). 18C (65F) ambient temp when system is off (which matches my home thermostat's reading). I find the CPU core will be a number above the ambient room temp. So in this case mine is room+20C under heavy load. If your home is warmer, then I would expect your CPU temp to be warmer by the same amount. Server admins are right to keep their server areas cool

Taisol CK733 in a Fong Kai 603 with air duct. The Fong Kai is a very effecient case... in another case I'd bet I would have a higher reading.

When I was overclocking to 950 (not stable) I was up in the 45-49C range at 1.825vcore. This CPU won't even do 850 stable without maxing the voltage I don't like being over 1.8 so I tuned it down to 800mhz@1.7v.

I've seen many people run over 50C without problems... so I wouldn't worry too much... but 50C+ (122F) would make me a little nervous. I've also heard of people with modified boards running core voltages in excess of 2.0v. I would not recommend this... but aparently it is possible.

My main goal is stability... so I don't like to risk random crashes... but in my opinion, the max vcore on the Kt7 shouldn't harm the CPU... but it will get quite hot... and with high heat comes a greater risk of instability.

Assuming no thermistor movement between tl and UL bios, the difference is approximate +10C both idle and full load for the UL with a proper temp reading program.

wizz0bang,

over 50C readings will become commonplace once people start overclocking 1.2ghz t-birds. Heck, for most cases, anything at 1ghz or over will be in the 45-50C range depending on heatsink(again, reading wise).

Mhhh strange... How can one leave a duron idle. Got a 650@850 and a 700@900 in my bedroom, and they havent had an idle cycle for weeks. Though they did crack a few randoms when my connection was down.

My own 900mhz T-bird with MSI K7T PRO is between 41c(idle) & 48c(full load) also using the Taisol 733 version heatsink/fan,btw try installing a couple of Sunon 80mm case fans that should help it cool down a little.

my tbird 950 runs 30 idle and 45 max load ... big change in temp...something may be wrong but i reapplied the hsf and it still fluctuates with 15 C ... don't know ...
ambient temp is about 20-24 C

is it worth jumping the fsb to 110 and getting a change from 45C max load to 52C max load ?
