Duron or Celeron?

I am going to build a new computer for my dad and well I can't figure out what I should put in it. I mean can you guys tell me if I should go with a Celeron II 566mhz or a duron something? I can spend like $250 on the motherboard and processor. I dont want to go with the Athlon or the PIII. so it would be really helpful if you guys could give me some suggestions on the processor and the motherboard.

Duron 600/650 with MSI K7T PRO board(rock stable)not the best for overclocking but cheaper then ASUS A7V or ABIT KT7.,Btw you will still have spare cash so you might be able to afford a faster Duron if you are lucky & shop around.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I really want to overclock the system too. If it costs me a little more to get a better mobo I can do that. Thanks Again

Duron is WAY better:

Well according to your sig it isnt more o/c able! I have my celeron 566mhz running at 850 without any lockups or anything. You have your duron 600mhz running at 650mhz. If I do get a Duron what motherboard should I get with it?

I am upgrading this week to PC133 Ram, A Geforce2 GTS Video Card
And a better HSF so I can overclock to 850-900.

But as it is it's completely stable!
Make sure the chip you get is *UNLOCKED*
And if you go ASUS make sure the multiplier dip switches are there.

There is no guarantee how well you can do in overclocking either the Duron or Celeron II - it all depends on the individual chip. However, the best you can reasonably hope for with a Cele II is an overclock to 850 MHz, which is at best equivalent to an non-overclocked Duron 650-700. This suggests that an overclocker should go for the Duron for a still higher level of performance. And the Celeron is clearly inferior to the Duron if not overclocking. It's a no brainer.

Until Intel increases the FSB for the Celeron, the Duron will remain the performance/value leader for the PC enthusiast/builder. And there is little incentive for Intel to do that at this time.
