dvd drive dont wanna work

Hey everyone. Im fixing a comp for someone. I just installed their new dvd rw drive becuase there old one doesnt work. I set the drive one cable select along with the dvd rom. I dled the drivers, and it shows up on the os. The thing is that everytime i try to have it read a cd it just doesnt respond. Also the taskbar disappears when it trys to read, but it comes back when i open the drive bay. I dont know whats going on.

If you're using CS, make sure all devices on the cable are using CS as well. Personally, I'd just use traditional master/slave jumpers.

Try putting the DVD drive as master on its own bus, reboot and see if there is any improvement. Also try the drive in another computer to see if a different system behaves similarly with this drive. Check the BIOS to ensure that the drive is showing up properly. You can also check the system Event Viewer for any signs of hardware/software malfunction.

Cable select is suck, definately make it MASTER.
