dvd drive problem

this dvd drive doesnt read at all. Forget about burning, it just doesnt want to read. Its a nec dvd rw drive with a msi 865pe neo2-v. i know im getting enough power. I also have the drives on cable select. In windows it shows up in the device manager. Also it says its working properly. So i have no idea whats going on. anyone have a clue?

If it is not reading ANY MEDIA, then you may want to try cleaning the
Laser(s) (CD & DVD).

You can try gently blowing some air at a 45 degree angle thru the drive
or remove the drive and disassemble it to clean with alcohol, being careful
not to rub the lenses to much.

If that doesn't help, most likely the drive is dead.

today i tried to put another dvd rw drive in. doesnt seem to work as well. same thing happens. Both are totally new drives out the box.
