DVD to videotape?

My son needs to take a clip of a movie to school for a project. I'd rather not buy the movie on VHS since I already have the DVD, but his school doesn't have a DVD player. Is there a way to get it on tape? Obviously I can't record from my home theatre to VCR, due to the Macrovision, but can I use my PC DVD drive plus the video out of my videocard and audio out of my soundcard directly to a VCR? Or is there a better way?

Hopefully I'm not crossing any lines with this question....

I would think that doing it from the PC would be the best way, sometimes VCR's have trouble recording from a set-top DVD player.

It depends on which video card you have, as some have macrovision built into the drivers.

I'm using a Gainward GF3 Ti200 w/ Det 28.32's.

I'd say just give it a shot. In the time it takes for you to figure out if yer card does/doesn't filter out Macrovision you could've probably hooked and up and tested to see for yourself.

There are some tools (I think) that can rip the DVD to your hard drive and disable Macrovision. You could then play the files on your HD with a software DVD player thru your TV out.

Checked Doom9 and found DVD Decrypter. It ripped it to my hard drive and disabled Macrovision. Now I can just record it to tape and all is well!

Indy-Jaws, Go to www.dvdwizards.com, Find the type of dvd player you have and see if you can disable the Macrovision and region code, I have one that I did that to and it records to my vhs better than tv to vhs, Have A Great Day, Plumber
