DVD Vidieo jumping on laptop

I have a KDS P III 1000 laptop. It is a KDS 671 with a combo DVD CD burner. Whenever I try to play dvds the video skips. I have reloaded all the drivers on the audio, video, and upgraded the bios which did not seam to be any help. I have used the dvd player until recently. I tried windows media player, power dvd, and Win DVD. They all skip. Any Suggestions?

run your laptop on ac adapter to wall jack, maybe ur laptop is runnign in battery save mode which lowers ur cpu speed.

I'm running it on ac. Not the problem but thanks though.

when u play dvds, under task manager what percentage does ur cpu hover around?

well there u go. are u sure that even though ur plugged in to a wall jack that its not throttling down ur cpu?? cuz 1ghz should be enough for dvd playback
check under device manager that both ur HD and optical drives are runnignn in DMA mode not PIO

Yes its in dma mode. It stills skips. It's showing that I have plenty ram available too. cpu is between 85 and 100 %. It skips even at 85%. Thanks for the help.

My roommate's computer was exhibiting a similar problem yesterday when trying to play DVD's. Although I doubt my fix for his computer will work on your laptop, I thought you might be interested in our solution.

He'd recently reinstalled Windows XP on his Dell Inspiron 2650. I poked around in Device Manager at first, looking at his DMA settings and then noticed an issue with his Display Adapter. He'd neglected to install his nVidia Geforce 2 Go drivers, which was the cause of the DVD stutter. PowerDVD was trying to play the DVD with Windows' software renderer. No wonder it was so slow!

Although you mentioned you reinstalled your video card drivers, I'd still double check that your Display Adapter is showing up correctly in Device Manager. It's possible that the drivers never installed properly and that you're still running Windows with it's VGA renderer.
