I have been using DVI input for some time and it was working fine until i installed directx9.
after reboot the monitor didnt turn back on. it enters windows cos i can hear the startup sound.
I have tried using system restore to no avail. could it be just a coincidence or dx9 is actually causing this problem?
btw what is the difference in DVI and analog anyway?

Try starting in Safe Mode. If it does, try setting the resolution & refresh rate to 800 x 600 at 60Hz, then restart. If not, then try operating your monitor off of the VGA jack and see if that changes anything.

Thx 4 the reply.
but....nope... safe mode doesnt help. It was off since boot up.
the analog jack works fine. now i m using the same monitor off the analog ouput.
I've tried using the dvi on a different card. Didnt work as well.
could there be any chance that the cable got burned out or something?

I recently had a Dell Dimension 8200 at work have it's DVI port stop working. THe analog VGA port worked just peachy.

After a fruitless support call to Dell where they wound up offering to send me a new video card they called me. They said that they discovered a defect in some Nvidia drivers (NV18 or something?) that corrupted the data stored is some NVRAM in the flat panel itself. This NVRAM is used by the system to identify the monitor on the DVI port and when corrupted the monitor is no longer recognized.

Dell sent me an .exe to make a boot disk that I'm supposed to boot the system with to fix the problem. I tried it but it didn't work. I need to call Dell about it again :-\

If you have an Nvidia based card or a Dell you might want to try to research this possiblity a little more.

I had the feeling that this was very specific to Dell hardware. I, and many others, have suffered a similar loss-of-DVI with our Dell equipment. I do find it kinda funny that it is blamed on nVidia when only it only happens to Dell displays.

Anyway, this situation made big news on C|Net News.com about a month or two ago. I posted all of the relevant links here .. somewhere. Included in my post was the fix that ultimately restored my DVI.

NOTE: If Dell sent you a file for a bootable floppy/CD. You need to let it run for several minutes. You won't know if it worked until you reboot.

My Dell 19 LCD DVI also stop working. I called Dell and they shipped me a replacement. I have not idea so many people are having DVI issues with Dell Display.

Exact same thing happened with my ti4200 on my Gateway. I spent 2 days arguing with their idiots in customer service that their "solutions" weren't working. I finally managed to get ahold of someone who understood the situation and he had me download an exe that worked.

Still have it if you're interested in trying it....

Hey there peeps.. I also have a problem with using DVI. It stopped working at my monitors native resolution (1920*1200). It works at any other resolution lower than that.

I experienced some wierd.. Erorrs before this happened.. When I moved the mouse all the open windows I had just flashed across the screen.. This happened a few times and then the monitor (samsung 243T stopped syncing @ that resolution). It works on analogue.

Is it possible that my drivers screwed up my monitor somehow? Because this happened as I installed Windows Xp and new gfx drivers. I'e tried older drivers and WIn2k again bu it still won't work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Gfx card is Radeon 9000 pro.

After thinking about this for a little bit, I wonder if pushing 1920x1200 through DVI is just a bit much for that card. That's a good number of bits.

Can the card push 19x12 via analog?

Hi.. yes.. it worked flawlessly with my old Samsung 240T for a year or so and it worked for a month or so with the new 243T.. But.. I ordered a new 9800 Pro just now. Will get back and tell if it makes a difference.

Hmm.. I have it working now. I installed powerstrip and lowered the refreshrate slightly. It seems my radeon sends out a not so very standard 59.93 hz by default and my monitor doesn't like that much.

Anyway this is more of a work a round than a fix.. But it works.

Powerstrip does ALOT of things. But what helped me is that is allows you to set the refresh rate manually to just about any number. I lowered it from some weird number just under 60 to 58 hz and it worked for me. Maybe this is because this is at the very edge of the dvi specs.. I dunno.. but it did it.

Check that you ahve the correct resolution and not too high refresh rates.
