I have an ATI HD 4870 card, that says it offers HDMI via an adapter as it has two DVI outputs.
http://ati.amd.com/products/Radeonhd4800/index.html
That website says the card offers:
HDMI - Enjoy the latest audio technologies using HDMI with 7.1 digital surround sound support. Also, xvYCC support allows the user to enjoy a wider range of color when connected to a capable HDTV.
SO my question being: I just bought a Samsung 22" 720p Series 3 TV, as I don't have room for anything larger atm...
If I use a DVI to HDMI cable/adapter and hook it to my TV will it transmit the Audio?
I don't mind using the built in speakers on the TV atm, as all that is hooked to the PC currently is a small cheap set of stereo speakers.
IF it can't, then I am guessing I will just keep using the stereo speakers.
I plan to later get a set of Klipsh 2.1 speakers to hook up to the TV. I am not a huge AV buff, and I do things small but I want to do it well also.
720p is good enough for me, and I will always use the speakers with my computer even if later I upgrade to a 1080p system and a more robust sound system, but honestly that is WAY far down the road. So...
Cliffs:
Will my vid card, output the sound, since it states it supports HDMI and 7.1 sound (guessing that is to a receiver that would then send all that to a 7.1 system) or do I need to keep using the crappy stereo speakers?
Thanks.
