So, did you run any before & after benches?

I should have, and as soon as i booted with new proc I thought of that and was disappointed that I hadn't bothered. But in real world usage that little conroe is smashing the 820 to pieces, even at stock 2.2ghz. TF2 performs perfectly fine now before it was a slideshow. Gotham city imposters barely worked at all, its still struggling some but is completely playable. And the difference in heat is pretty huge. The fan was constantly winding up before. Can't wait to get in there and do the pin mod on this thing.

My e2200 runs cool so your 2140 should be even better in that regard but you still better use some paste I use antec nano diamond it seems to do a good job.

You are being waaaay too paranoid for this mod, but to answer your question - a fingernail. You have at least one of those ?? Yep, that's all you need to scratch it off the underside of the chip where you draw it if it doesn't connect the points.

Wow, I haven't encountered a board that wouldn't BSEL mod, but leave it to Intel to block that approach. Lesson to take away from this: Intel is great for a business class PC, but are not recommended for use in a home PC* unless you don't plan on overclocking.

*Certain Intel boards were designed with enthusiasts in mind, such as the Intel D5400XS, but by and large they are not what is recommended.

Get a : Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz

Thank me later.

I have an asus build with a core i5, 6870 and 8 gig of ram that i game on, the one i was modding is an old pc i gave to my kids to play around with. It was originally a pentium D with a 3650 in it, i bought them a gt 440 and got this conroe for 18 bucks on amazon. Even unmodded its good enough for their games, its gonna have to be until they have their own damn money.

Haha,

No sense in spoiling them with a really nice PC, keep their expectations realistic

Let's just put it this way. I upgraded a pentium D 820 to a celeron 440 and it was noticably faster even at just 2.2 GHz. And this was a single core. There was nothing it didnt do faster. Watching youtube, loading webpages, running flash games. Launching multiple apps. There seriously was nothing I could find that performed worse in any way. And a celeron 440 is just a single core. You got two of those cores, with 4 times the cache I think....

I have two e4300s and an e2200 from Fry's combo deals way back in the day, and all of them were BSEL modded as the combo mobos had no OC options. The defogger repair kit was the way I went and it worked just fine on all three processors. But years later, when I was slapping together a machine just to run some tests, I plopped one of the BSEL modded e4300s in an MSI P45 board and it refused to recognize the mod and booted at stock. It did the same thing with the e2200. Both would OC like beasts in the P45, but it refused to respect the BSEL's authority.
