My work PC has a E6600 with 2GB RAM, Gigabyte DS3 mobo and a GeForce 7300GS.
It has recently been turning itself off (after a period of a few hours to a few minutes usage). At first I thought it was the PSU (500w Antec Silentpower) so i swapped it out for a generic 500w PSU.
Well, while I was using it today, I put in speedfan and watched in amazement as my CPU reached 100 degrees and it didnt turn off. I opened up the case and it seemed the fan wouldnt start, speedfan just said the fan was going at 400,000 RPM.
At startup though, the fan starts up and cools it down to 30ish, by the time i boot into windows its around 22 degrees. But then the fan starts spluttering, visibly speeding up and speeding down in quick succession before it stops completely. A hard reboot (turn it off completely, then turn it back on) starts the fan back up again, and the process repeats. The BIOS shows the same temp as Speedfan (100ish after a period of usage) so speedfan is accurate.
Any ideas whats wrong? Its a work PC so I really need it fixed (do you think its worth ruling out the PSU? should i stick the antec one back in? should i try changing the powerboard its connected to?)
Thanks
