I'm debating on which one to get. I know the e6600s are having heat and OC issues, but I never see anything about the e6700s... anyone know how they compare? Personal opinions welome... thanks in advance.

E6600 heat and OCing issues? I think the heat issues are more along the lines of the way the stock intel cooler is one piece of work to actually get on there correctly. As for OCing...I'm not sure about that. Alot of mobo BIOS are hitting a FSB wall, and that might be a reason for the "poor" (if you consider it "poor") OCing.

The E6700 is just a little high for the % of performance you get. Sure, it beats the E6600, but not by large amounts. Even though it's 1/2 the price of the X6800, I still think that the E6700 is a little out of the price range of most upgraders right now. Also, I think some are thinking, I'm so close to the X6800, why not just drop the cash for that CPU, instead.

Of course, these are just my opinions.

If you're wanting a high overclock, get either an E6700 or an E6400. Both are regularly going higher than the average E6600 overclock. If you're just wanting fast stock speed, for not much more money than an E6400, you can't beat the E6600. In other words, it all depends on what you're looking for in your processor.

BTW, the 6600's aren't any hotter, unless you're trying to get a good overclock. Then, the only reason they're hotter is because of how much voltage they're requiring, to hit the same speeds as the E6700's and E6400's.

So in your opinion the 6700s are just a waste of $200 bucks? Do you believe the 6600s require more voltage than the 6400 or the 6700?

Thanks for the replies so far, everyone

What n7 and I are both saying is that the best deal right now, among all of the Core 2 Duo processors, is the E6400. If you're wanting an extremely high overclock, the only chip, besides the X6800, getting them is the E6700, which is twice as much money as an E6400 (close enough to me), and they are only going a 200-300 Mhz higher.

Anything above the E6600 is indeed a waste of money if you overclock.

The newer E6600s are hitting 3.8 GHz sometimes.
There's really no reason for spending extra money on an E6700 or X6800 when the E6600 & even E6400 will hit the same speed on average.

Unless you want a longer e-penis, that is.

I hadn't heard about the 3.8 on 6600 yet! Now the question is, where can I find a surefire newly produced 6600!

E6600...

Because you won't really be able to tell the difference between a E6600 and a E6700 till 6 months, and by that time you can use that $300 you saved to get another processor.

Get it at a B&M where you can read the code on the spot.

Between the E6600 and the E6700, I would go with the E6600. There is not enough difference between the two to justify the price difference.

The answer to this question would have been different a few weeks ago. Anecdotal evidence suggests that pre-week 27 E6600 chips require higher voltage to acheive good overclocking results. Week 27 and 28 chips are now being sought-out by the enthusiasts. Myself, I have a Week 24 E6600 and can't get past FSB 320 at vcore auto. Meanwhile, I've seen several people achieve 333 and higher at vcore auto with week 27s.
