yes i also see on newegg comments that there are people using other ram that isn't listed on there. Corsair packs in 4 gigs. it only lists the corsair 1 gig stick but, apparantly it works fine... I may try to look up other people's builds on this board and see if there's something worth getting. If anyone here has suggestions, or knows "type-x" ram will work with this board please let me know

as for that Abit IP35... yeah my friend has had really bad luck with Abit, and after seeing him struggle through his P35, i don't think i trust that brand. His raid controller and such had major problems. I'm sticking with either asus, dfi, or gigabyte.

On-board raid controllers are usually garbage. I mean sometimes they're alright but if you want quality raid performance, it's better to get a raid card.

I've never worked with Abit boards, but I've had issues with onboard raid with DFI and Gigabyte boards, and I still trust Gigabyte as my #1 love in my life.

PSU: A Corsair 520HX is enough power, even if you have 2 graphics cards.
RAM: DDR2-800 is enough for a 4GHz overclock, as long as its good enough to reach DDR2-900. I'm using Crucial and it handles these speeds and more without a problem.
Mobo: If you're picking from DFI, MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte or Abit then they're all great - just pick the one with the features you want for the cheapest price. They'll all handle up to 500 FSB. I'd go for a P35 since you're getting an Nvidia graphics card. X38 only supports Crossfire not SLI iirc.
Graphics: Definitely go for the 8800 GTS 512 and forget the aftermarket heatsink&fan. Its faster and quieter than the GT, and can be had for the same price as a GT with an aftermarket heatsink&fan. And its really easy to get a mild overclock using ntune.

ok so i'm thinking you guys are probably right, i'm sticking with Nvidia cards and i never really planned on crossfire or sli. So i've changed my mind on my mobo and have chosen:

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 Rev. 2.1
http://www.clubit.com/product_...l.cfm?itemno=CA4830731

It is cheaper, and for my needs has pretty much all the features i want. I've looked around and i think i'm going to choose the OCZ ram.

http://www.newegg.com/product/...x?item=N82E16820227178

i've seen a review of this board on CPU3d and some other places and it seems like the one for me.
http://www.cpu3d.com/index.php...3583&Itemid=54&limit=1

I especially loved the 8 usb connectors in the back.
Unless you guys can change my mind (i.e. "omg that board sucks!" or "omg that ram is bollocks"), i think i'm set. thank you all for your help.

The 512MB EVGA 8800GT SC is a great card.

I bought the SC that was clocked at 650core/1900mem, then cross flashed it with the SSC BIOS effectively turning it into a 8800GT SSC running at 700core/2000mem. Even after that, my card had enough headroom left to overclock even further to 725core/2250mem.

Killer card at a killer price!

I'm not sure how the OCZ DDR2-800 runs in that board. (The P5E is basically the same as my Maximus Formula boards)

Something to consider is a couple of sticks of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1066. They're $15 more than the OCZ sticks, but come with a $20 mail in rebate which makes them cheaper! I'm curently running the Cricial Ballistix 1066 in my Maximus Formula board with a E8400 and doing 500*8 (4 GHz) at 1.28v on the stock Intel HSF! Temps are kind of high at 45 idle/65 load, but it's worth it! I'm just holding off til next week when my Freezone get back.

I have the P35 DFI kuroshouten linked (LT is the same thing sans the transpiper = $40 cheaper) , paired with the GSkill myocardia linked, running great so far; although I just put this box together this past weekend (spec in sig). With the wolfdale it's currently at 3.6Ghz no sweat. Vacation tomorrow so I'll be making the push to 4Ghz I truley don't believe it will be a problem, I'm just hoping I'm able to keep the volts lowish. However, I've had Gigabyte boards in the past and I loved them for how rock solid their stuff always seems to be, and they would of been my choice had I not wanted to give DFI a try this round.

ok ok i'm pretty sure i'm gonna be using XP, so 2gb max ram right now, i may upgrade later, but for now, i'm doing it XP-style. i know i could go more, but i just want to buy a 2gb pack.

That said are all of the ram's listed compatible with the Gigabyte board i've chosen? Are you 100% sure that it is? If so i'll definitely be considering it and looking more closely at it.

So far i've got:
OCZ Platinum 1066mhz PC8500:
http://www.newegg.com/product/...x?item=N82E16820227178

G.Skill 1000 mhz PC8000:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231152
(i assume this is the same stuff as the 4 gig pack just in smaller sizes)

Ballistix 1066 mhz PC8500
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148069

I'm going in this order
Compatible with my Gigabyte board>Overclockability>price

Re-link of my board: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 Rev. 2.1
http://www.clubit.com/product_...l.cfm?itemno=CA4830731

Please keep the responses coming, i'm actually learning alot here. I've posted this type of thread elsewhere but have yet to receive the knowledge and quickness of responses generated here. I'm truely grateful.
