I have my new E8400 running Orthos test(small FFT, Priority 9) for the last 14 hours. Its at 4.0Ghz(500 x8). One of the cores is at 60 degrees C and the second is at 57 degrees C(according to RealTemp). My idle was at 33 degrees and 31 degrees. I am using Artic Freezer Pro 7 for cooling. The vcore is at 1.4V according to cpuz though its set at 1.45V in the bios. Are my results in range or are they excessive???

My Crusical Ballistix DDR2 6400 Ram is at 1000(2:1), 5-5-5-15-2.2V. All my other voltages are at default in the bios. Motherboard is the Gigabyte P35 D3SL.

Also for some reason, Orthos is reporting the cpu speed as 4500Mhz, cpuz and Speedfan are reporting it correctly.

It could be at 4.5Ghz if you do not have it locked, under load it will go to 9x mult and be at 4.5. Watch cpuz at idle and then under load. Mine drops to 6x at idle and goes to 9x under load.

would be intresting if you acutally just primed for that long at 4.5g. might be a world record. Mine wouldnt go longer than 20 mins. I clockgened for almost an hour, but clockgen don't count. my temps were also low 80's in coretemp .96.1

Dude...I have the same exact set up as yours. Mine is running at 4.00 Ghz stable and I did orthos all night long and woke up to find the load temp around 63C with the case open.

So..take it easy and enjoy your kickass E8400

when I open IE or some application, I see the temperature shoot up to 46 degrees and then goes back to 34 instantly. IS this normal behavior. I havent yet stress tested with any games, did run 3dmark 06 twice and the temperature got upto 54 degrees right after the last test finished.

not normal, sounds like a stuck sensor. I'd be more concerned about seeing your maximum temperature at load after running prime/orthos for a few hours.

edit: ( for a penryn a stuck sensor is very common, just not normal for all other C2D/C2Qs )

I have already done that, it was 57 degrees after 6 hrs, 60 degrees after 14 hours. Core 2 was always 2-3 degrees coler than core 1.

60C in Realtemp or Coretemp?

60C Realtemp = 70C Coretemp

60C Coretemp = 50C Realtemp

edit: nm saw Realtemp in your first post.

both. If you look at "delta to thermal junction maximum" on either software you will see the same number given by the DTS.

This means you have the same temperature range until prochot (cpu shutoff) in both programs, yet one of them is incorrect at reading the actual cpu temperature (50C/60C). The public doesn't yet know the exact Tjmax of the wolfdales, so people are inclined to believe Realtemp for now because of UncleWebb's research. Realtemp assumes 95C and coretemp assumes 105C. Thats the main difference.

Aim a temp gun at it to find out if 50 or 60 is correct
