Group,

Pretty new to overclocking, so I may be making mistakes. I have an e8500 with a gigabyte ep35-ds3l. 8 gigs of G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) running windows 7.

Currently got it up to 3.8 using 9.5 by 400 with cpu voltage to 1.30625. I had it at 1.3 but it failed after 2 hours running prime95. At the 1.30625 I have had it running prime for 7+ hours and no errors.

Tried 8 by 500 to get 4.0 ghz but that would not post.

Idle temps are in low 40's topping out with prime95 at about 64 on one core and 59 the other.

Couple questions

Why the temp diff between cores? I have redone the heat-sink application a number of times. Lastly used the recommended arctic silver method. "tinning" each side then a single strip of paste down the center. cooler is ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7.

So can i get more out of this chip? If so how?

If not are my current settings safe? Am I missing anything?

See my screen shots.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you're doing pretty well at 3.8, but I have to admit, I'm surprised you need that much voltage. I had my e8400 at 3.6 using 1.2v for a long time. You shouldn't worry about the difference between the cores...that's normal. The AC Freezer 7 is a mid-range cooler, so you're not going to get really low temps with it. I have one installed on an e6400 and it idles in the 40s. Also, two other observations...you're using an older motherboard, which may not be optimized for overclocking the e8500, and you've got 8GB of ram, which puts more stress on the system. I'm not an expert on this, but you might need to adjust some other voltages to compensate...or try overclocking with just 4GB.

If you wanna try for 4ghz first you should lock your pci-e frequency to 100mhz. Then just use the 9.5 multiplier with 425 cpu frequency. You may have to play around with your memory divider also to keep it close to spec. Maybe bump up the vcore a little also.
