E8500 Stock HSF temps

I read a lot about problems with reported temps on these chips.

My usual process when building a comp is to install... PSU, MB, RAM, CPU, Video boot and update bios check cpu temps, run memtest etc.

Well completely stock no oc with the stock hsf i'm idling according to the bios at 58C

Wow that seems ridiculously high. Should this worry me at all. I know I have seated the hsf correctly with AS5 put on the chip with the stripe down the middle in the correct direction.

I"ve reseated the hsf three times now, making sure all four corners punch through the board evenly.

Any help should I simply assume the temp is being reported incorrectly by the motherboard.

Mine did the same thing. I was getting 58c idle, and about 72c load.

I bought the Artic Cooler 7 and now I'm about 52c idle, and 62c load.

I think the stock heatsinks are generally crap.

That would be about average or a little higher but well within Intel specs. What is the load temp and what are you using to measure it?

Your temp is higher than would be expected, but nothing to worry about. The stock heatsinks are perfectly fine for normal use.

While nothing to worry about (your cpu won't degrade at those temps), your cpu is running unusually hot. I would assume it is because of the stock heatsink, as I have never used it.

If you want to overclok at some point (which is pretty easy with that chip, I got the same one), you need to buy a better heatsink/fan.

I won't be overclocking at all. This is a computer that simply needs to work and be 100% stable. I'm sure I will here from people saying their overclock is stable but the people using it will not know the difference and keep everything stock gives me a piece of mind that there is a better chance it will continue to work longer.

The only reason I even made this thread is because i personally am running a e4500 with the stock hsf and it idles at 36c. Big difference that kinda sent up a red flag for me.
