earthwatts 500W

I am looking into buying an Antec Sonata III which comes with an Antec EarthWatts 500W psu, and am wondering if it would have enough power for a 8800GT 512mb. The system would also be running intel c2d, single HD, and no added peripherals.

• Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
  (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amp Amps.)
  Minimum 450 Watt for SLI mode system.
  (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)
  An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card)

Now from what I've read, the PSU has a +12v1 and a +12v2 which both run at 17A, so is it the combination of the two that has to be >= 22A?

should be more than enough, I'm planning on building a C2Quad system with an 8800GT and more peripherals, going to get a Corsair vx450

the earthwatts 500 has 34 amps combined over both 12V rails so you should be more than fine. if you're running the average number of components

1 proc (quad and duo count as 1)
ram
single video card
optical drive
1-3 hard drives
maybe a few other odd components (second burner, additonal HDD's)

most systems rarely ever use over 300 watts at load, though it's good to have a little bit extra in case you ever decided to add components, or you are doing something super resource intensive that you exceed normal wattage, but to be honest you could get away with the EA430 easily.

The 22A recommendation is for the entire system draw and not just the 8800GT. The EarthWatts 500 is more than capable of powering your new system, and it would have enough power for a 2nd 8800GT in SLI.
