Had a lean pocket for lunch (bought a big box of em at costco) and spent $3.12 for dinner.. (jr bacon cheeseburger, medium fries, and a small chili)

What would you guys do with.. let's say.. $4 a day to eat with ($120ish a month..)

Oatmeal for breakfast; big thing of it for cheap that would last a week maybe.
Soups for lunch, ramen noodles, rice.
Dinner would be pasta maybe, or, cheaper cuts of meat, or chicken.

It could be done.

Quaker Oats "quick 1 minute" oatmeal is a cheap breakfast that's actually good for you. Try it with a little maple syrup or turbinado sugar for sweetener, and crumbled walnuts or pecans are good as a mix-in.

Cooking at home with bags of rice & pasta is much cheaper and healthier than the fast food and frozen fast food like hot pockets.

I had baked potatoes and chicken legs/thighs baked in the oven for 3 people...

chicken cost me $4 and 10lb potatoes cost $2(they will last 3 weeks) very cheap dinner

$120 is plenty to buy groceries with for 1 person for a month. just dont buy stuff thats ready-made or heat and serve.. you pay $$$$ for convenience. Take for example.. Ben n Jerry's is $5 for Chunky Monkey pint but you can get a half gallon of rocky road for $3. Convenience is costly.

seriously, it's not half bad and it keeps me from putting on weight and that alone is worth it. I don't eat that much meat which helps.

EDIT: Safeway = Big supermarket chain in UK

Heh... I once had less than $10 for a month for food.

Packs of Ramen noodles for every meal it was!

I now hate Ramen.

Just log into a chat room as an underage person looking for sex and alcohol and have the person bring pizza and beer.

Buy about 20 pounds of the cheapest pasta you can find and a couple of 1 gallon cans of ketchup. You can splurge on a large bottle of Tobasco Sauce for flavor, or just go to Del Taco and pocket all the hotsauce they have sitting out.

naw the big containers are about 3 bux for like 30? servings. last quite a bit longer then a week. i'm not talking about flavored stuff though, that stuff is like twice as expensive atleast.

big bag of pancake mix at costco is like 5 bux, insane amount of servings.

you can get by really cheap if you cook

Makes me feel guilty that I used to spend, and still sometimes do, upwards of $300/week on eating out.

eggs are a really inexpensive source of protein.. you don't want to eat them ever day, but a dozen eggs for 1.19ish and 8oz of cheese for 1.50ish, you got omelets.. head of lettuce for 1.49 and a tomato for 1.69/lb, probably enough left over for an onion, you got salad to go with.. so what's that.. 6 dinners, 1 buck each.

Breakfast: Raisin Bran with 32% fiber, low sugar and calories, and comes cheap in large box sizes.
Lunch: lean pockets, home cooked pasta in tupperware, or the old standby sandwiches with whole wheat bread and spinach or green leaf lettuce
Dinner: anything made at home: stirfry, chicken breast with brocolli, and turkey burgers on whole wheat bun are some of my faves

Sometimes I eat out because my life is so damn busy I cannot always cook, and when I do I try to use coupons or look for deals on healthy food. It's nice being a student because you get all sorts of local discounts

Hrmmmm, for 4 bucks I'd have meals for a week - two loafs of bread, peanut butter and jelly
