Coincidence that today was the day we got the letter saying that Food Stamp amount was being decreased and we should immediately contact the EBT customer service to find out how much we would be getting after the decrease?

Hope nobody in ATOT-land is suffering from inability to use Food Stamps. Not that you would admit it around here.

What a nightmare for grocery stores (not to mention the customers), particularly on a weekend. People load up carts full of food and then get to the cashier and find out they can't pay for it. They had signs up when I went today, but I kind of doubt most people would have noticed them.

That's pretty terrible. I'm pretty embarrassed when my credit card declines, even if it's for no good reason at all. Actually, it's never been for a good reason, it's always been a "fraud" alert, and ended my banking relationship with Bank of America. I imagine most people using EBT already don't want to draw attention to it, and they'll have a cashier telling them their food stamps declined. I wonder how many grocery stores will just allow these customers to run a tab - probably depends on if you're in a smaller town or not.

I gotta be honest. I'm heading out to buy groceries in a bit, and if I see someone ahead of me in line sitting there with groceries and they can't pay, I'm highly likely to pick up their tab. Unless they're buying cigs and 40's. I won't pay for the cigs, and they gotta give me one of the 40's or at least walk back to the cooler and get me one.

Grocery stores should have manual vouchers they can use for processing. Basically they take down the transaction info and the EBT card info, call the number for voice authorization, then take down an authorization code if it is approved. Slow and cumbersome compared to paper food stamps or an ebt card but at least it works.

People used to sell the stamps for cash and then buy cigs and booze and lottos.

Or they buy basics with the stamps and spend their minimum wage on cigs and booze and lottos.

I honestly dont know how they abuse it with the card. I guess theres some sort of black market going on or whatever.
