I know a few people who don't get it, and they are all upset. They make to much money. My brother for example had an AGI of $90,000+ last year and is very upset he doesn't get it.

Why shouldn't he be upset that people are being handed money he worked for? Robin Hood is only good as a bedtime story

Yup, most people are fans of redistribution of wealth only when it benefits them.

Yup. And that's exactly what this is wealth redistribution. And it's wrong on so many levels it really is sickening.

You realize that most taxes that are collected from wealthy people are distributed to those who didn't earn the wealth all of the time right? That's how most economies work. It just so happens that this time it is being distributed in the form of hard cash. This is exactly why the wealthy people are not going to notice any change in their day to day lives even though the government is making this decision. It happens all the time year after year. They depend on it.

Yes, exactly. It's nothing new, I was just pointing out why people may be upset. The same as those who make more may complain about being taxed at a higher rate, paying for welfare, etc.

I'm 00 and still haven't received mine yet. I did get my tax refund this morning, though. Weird...

and of course ALL of the taxes that everyone pays is redistributed. that is what taxes do, the redistribute income. primarily to provide for things that the free market wouldn't provide for (presumably). the military for eg. is the biggest example of redistribution of wealth.

So my last two digits fall int he 21-75 category which means I was supposed to get my check yesterday, but I haven't.

I owed $ for 2007 and I paid via direct bank transfer. I did that about 1.5 weeks before 4/15 deadline.

Does this mean I won't get my stimulus check until way later b/c I didn't complete my taxes till very late?

Edit: Just read through the thread and noticed that I did direct debit through HRblock online free e-file. Just b/c I did direct debit does not mean I will get direct deposit on my sitmulus, so I guess I'm getting a paper check. Dang.

Also, I do not remember anything on the e-file about hrblock asking me about the stimulus package.

Darn... I am in the same boat. I used taxact and paid back using bank transfer. Done the tax over a month before the deadline and set the scheduled withdrawal about 3 weeks before the 4/15 deadline. They sure take the money quickly with no problem... Oh well, have to wait 1 more month for it.

Both my wife and I fall in the 21-75 category, we filed our taxes on time and paid in via direct withdrawal from our checking account, and selected direct deposit for our stimulus check via Turbotax. Nothing showed up.

The Federal government is not processing the Stimulus checks as fast as the original schedule.

Also, anyone that had a filing fee deducted from the refund will get a paper check.

One can go to the IRS website to get info on the status of the stimulus IF it is within a week of being sent out or to see if you qualify

From the TurboTax website here:

"When I paid the taxes owed on my 2007 return, I had the IRS debit my checking account. Will the IRS also deposit my rebate there?
No. The IRS says filers who used direct debit will get their payments by paper check in the mail."

Odd that Turbotax even gave me the option to have the stimulus check direct deposited then.

FYI, anybody not recieving your rebate due to the fact that you made too much can claim it as a donation for this year taxes. It won't get you the whole amount back, but it'll be something.

Quick question:

I was under the impression that parents would get their own rebate plus $300 for each child or dependent (like a student). Then I read just now in the FAQ that only children under 17 qualify for their parents to get the $300 each in addition to their own. Is that something new?

I thought it was $300 additional for any children or claimed dependents when they first introduced the stimulus package.

I think it's a bad joke involving sour grapes and high earners.

Heck, my wife got everything together a little late this year; didn't get the stuff to our accountant until March. As a result, we're still waiting for our tax return to be finished. Oh well. Uncle Sam gets his interest free loan a little bit longer, and I'm not quite ready to start the major remodeling work in the kitchen.

True. Under 17. BTW, I will get my extra 300 for the child/dependent NEXT year when I file. Because of a SSN fubar they wont be fixing stim $$$ until 2008 tax season.

I got mine; saving it.

Now, for 2008 return, $600 will be counted as income and I'll get taxed on it (well, anyone who received any stimulus check will get taxed on that amt). Sneaky gov't
