ECS K7S5A Case

Hi,

I am going to buy an ECS K7S5A motherboard combo with an AMD XP 1800+ cpu. I was wondering if people with this motherboard can post what cases they are using and if they are any good. Can you use any Mid-Size Case? I am asking that because would the back of the case fit the motherboard slots for the ps/2 input, line in, serial port, etc. ?

On my main system I am using a Cybertec 1040 with a 400w turbolink psu ($65). On my second system with this mb, I am using a generic case with a 300w Deer psu ($45). Both systems are overclocked and run flawlessly. Both cases are standard atx and the mb fits perfect with plenty of room.

The cheaper case was my first one, which I used for about a year until I upgraded with the cybertec one. I have not run into the psu problem that has seemed to plague this board, but with anything YMMV.

Not to worry .................. ;-)

The correct rear I/O panel is included with the ECS K7S5A!
Any of the better quality Mid-ATX cases will work just fine .......... make sure you get one that has a rear fan mount/grill ...... the larger the rear fan, the better ....... for cooling.
Don't go too cheap on the case and psu though, as your K7S5A will require a good 300W (or higher) powersupply.

compgeeks tend to have cheap cases
any atx case should work, as clumsum said, the board comes with the back plate that matches up
i'd go with this case if your looking to go inexpensive ($20) but you definitely need to replace the psu in it..they used to offer it without the psu and i got one back last summer that worked out pretty decent
i'd get a brand name 300-350 watt psu for the k7s5a, it tends to be a bit demanding on psu's, antec and enermax are both good psus
you can get an antec 300w for around $30 so for a total case cast of around $50 with a better psu than any $50 case i've seen
most cases tend to have cheap psus in them, i usually by my psus seperately
the compgeeks case is cheap and effective, looks decent, and no major annoyances with its setup that i can remember
the only thing i disliked about it was that it lacked a removable mobo tray, but not a deal killer

I picked up an Antec KS282 case with PP303X power supply for 49+tax at Frys. Great little mid tower case and works great with my son's ECS K7S5A and XP1600.

These cases are available other places also. The Chieftec cases are also made by the same vendor I believe.
