Just started building a new system, I got a cheapo ECS board & it won't recognize anything in the AGP slot.

I tried my new card, Elsa 511 & I also tried an older ATI card that I know works, but nothing worked. (just got beeps)

I put in an old Jaton PCI v-card & it boots up fine.

I thought that perhaps I needed a newer BIOS, so off to ecs.com I go.
I got their latest update, & successfully flashed the BIOS.

Still no go with the AGP.

The only thing in the BIOS about AGP is:
AGP 4x Mode:
1x
2x

In the manual, this is listed as having the options: Enable / Disable

Update:

For some reason, it will now boot with the older ATI AGP card, but it still will not boot with the new ELSA card.

I figured that the Elsa card was bad, so just to be sure, I threw it into another system, & it worked there...

I'm Stumped..

I don't know the MB, but this is a relatively common problem on the ECS K7S5A. The problem seems to be overtight AGP slots (sometimes same thing with memory). The solution is to reseat your AGP card a bunch of times (firmly). Hopefully that works for you.

That might be it.
I'll give it a shot.

It would explain why neither AGP card seems to work now.

Just wanted to agree with the last post. I have the K7VZA board rev.1.2 and I had the same exact problem. I was reading the ECS posts and found that this is a common problem on these boards. I felt pretty silly when I REALLY looked at how the AGP card was going in the slot. It appears that these boards sit to low in relation to where the back of the card hooks into the case. I remember looking at it and you could barely see the top row of pins, but if I wiggled/worked it some more it slipped in further and has worked fine since, the pin arrangement on APG cards are kind of staggered and I could see where if the card was not bottomed out it wouldn't work. I went through the same ordeal...popped in a pci card and it worked fine....put the APG card in another MB and it worked great....that was the problem for me anyhow....another thing you can check is in the BIOS there is an option for the BIOS to look either at your PCI bus or your AGP bus first for a video card.....it should work either way though..........have a good one
