EDI ? We need help~!!

MY company is manufacture and we had made contract with toys r us. They have asked that we intergrate EDI program service. can anyone here help me about EDI system? is it something regular IT guy can do when we buy software? or Do I need some 3rd party's external service? if we need , could you recommend one? Actually, we are very small company and do not know what EDI does exactly. your small help will be very appriciate..

EDI = Electronic Data Interchange (or Interface?)

Basically, it means that they can electronically access data from your computer system.

For example, they may want to be able to place purchase orders on their system which automatically creates a manufacturing demand on your system then allows them to automatically see the progress of their order all the way through to shipment.

It's a specialised subject and will likely cost you some cash for consultancy. If you have good relations with your customer, they may be willing to point you in the right direction as to where to get advice and how much it is likely to cost you.
