Edy's Slow Churned ice cream

Anyone else tried this?

I picked up a half gallon of the limited Peppermint @ the store tonight and it's so good...and not nearly as caloric/fattening as regular ice cream. I'm wondering if the other flavors are as good...

I've never tried this one, but most light ice cream is like lite beer--yuck. Maybe this one is different.

I finished a carton of french vanilla recenetly. Good stuff. But I was wondering, I thought ice cream was better when it was made fast (using liquid nitrogen) to get rid of impurities. And this goes against everything I was told.

I'm pretty sure that's only in the freezing process, while churning doesn't deal with that. The reason liquid nitrogen ice cream tastes better is because it freezes almost instantly, so big ice crystals have little time to form.

You can't really tell a difference from the regular Edy's stuff. It's very good.

I read an article on how they make these "slow churned" ice creams with lower fats, but I can't remember where (might have been Consumers Reports). A lot of it is they're finding other things that act like fat in ice cream, but aren't actually fat.

I was shocked at how tasty the slow churned stuff is, given the fat/calorie reductions. Delicious.

I tried to make a milkshake with it once. It's not good in that application. Darn.

I am unreasonably entertained by the fact that the address on the Dreyer's container (and I assume on the Edy's one too) is a block away from my house. When I'm on the road and homesick, I can get some Dreyer's/Edy's and feel like it's a taste from home. Sadly, not only has the company's HQ moved away to some Nestle monolith, but the Dreyer's ice cream parlor on the first floor of their former HQ is also much reduced. Even so, I stop by Dreyer's all the time for a tasty scoop. For some reason it's better there than when bought in a container at the store.
