Emachine M6805 BIOS upgraded ..

I'm helping a friend. He recently upgraded the BIOS on his 6805. He was running XP SP1 at the time (he had tried SP2 a few times but had to uninstall). After upgrading the BIOS he could no connect to his router. He called TS, they had him go into the BIOS and turn on a feature , he can't remember exactly, something like RFM(?). After rebooting he can connect to his network but the connection drops after 5 minutes. He reconnects and again it drops after 5. I had him install SP2 last night but the dropping connection glitch is still present.
Any ideas?

Search through the M6805 thread that is on this forum, that is your best shot.
Otherwise, try to update the drivers for the wifi card.
And from what I heard last, it is best to stay away from SP2 for eMachines notebooks. Call TS and ask them if they officially support SP2 yet.

I have an Emachines M6811....I have been using SP2 for months now without a single problem at all, so I dont think that is the issue.

For a while eMachines informed vendors not to put SP2 to on the laptops due to BIOS conflicts or some such nonsense. A 6805 is much older than the 6811, thus I would be there are some issues. However, if the wireless started after the BIOS updated & is present before/after SP2, it sounds like either wifi card driver issues, wifi card defect, or just plain bad luck. Fresh install?

I bought my GF a 6805 for Xmas and installed WinXP SP2 from scratch (slipstreamed install, which IMHO is the ONLY way to do a Service Pack on an OS) and it's been running like a dream. It's the fastest laptop I've ever seen, *period.*. All in all I am VERY pleased, and moreover, she is too.

The problem may be the authentication. I had this problem. In Network Connections, go to the properties of the Wireless Connection and uncheck the 'Enable IEEE 802.1x...' authenication box on the Authentication Tab.
As far as the M6805 with SP2, I've had problems with the laptop not shutting down, freezing when re-opening the lid, and freezing when unplugging/plugging in the power adapter. I've reinstalled SP1 and SP2 several times to make sure that it is indeed a SP2 issue.

Same here.

The bios update for the 6805 fixed all the shutdown, closing lid, power freezing stuff with XP SP2.

However, it has also rendered my machine unable to see a wireless network. Chasing that down now.
