I was taking the surveys on 23andme and one of them was something called empathy quotient. I got a score of 8. I took it a second time and thought I was being more generous but I only got 10. It said with a score less than 30, you likely have high functioning autism or Asperger's. I told me wife that and her response was "that wouldn't surprise me." I think it's bunk.

How well do you do on this quiz:

Would you like some cheese on your ass burger? :^P

I got a 31. I highly dislike "tests" like that. I feel like the real answers are more nuanced than the test allows. Since there was no neutral option, a lot of my answers weighted to one side or the other probably more than was accurate.

19 out of 80. The internet just told me I'm likely to has Aspergers. Which I don't. I just hate other people.

Tests like this don't take life experiences into account. If someone grew up in a shitty environment, they're probably going to score lower.

I scored a 33. which was higher than expected. I'm just not that social and don't like being the center of attention. I just don't really like people, as I think the vast majority of them are trying to screw you over one way or another.

What the hell do rollercoasters have to do with me apparently being diagnosed by some Internet quiz as having assburgers? (Cartman reference intentional.)

I think the quiz authors are confused about the meaning of empathy. Being professionally obnoxious takes understanding and a great deal of empathy.

1. I can easily tell if someone else wants to enter a conversation.

If they come up and start talking to me, they want to enter a conversation

54. I can easily work out what another person might want to talk about.

Of course, just listen to what they talk about, duh.

I got a 30, and a lot of the questions seemed like I could have easily chosen something more on the Aspergers/autism side and still maybe have been accurate. I've long suspected there was something wrong with me. I doubt it's Aspergers though. I wouldn't rule out some kind of high functioning autism though. It's really hard for me to read people, and I often have to consciously work out what I'm supposed to be feeling around other people so I can fake it. I've always been jealous of people who could just do and say whatever came to mind and have that be the "right" thing in most social situations.

Don't worry, that's probably an average score here on ATOT.

It's as if most people have native hardware support for that stuff, while a few of us have to run it all in a software emulation mode that we also have to write ourselves.

Meh, I've had a number of jobs that drove me crazy. As such, I care a lot less about my fellow whiny small-minded man than I used to. That doesn't make you autistic.

54 out of 80. Guess I'm normal. What's wrong with the rest of you fruit cakes?

You ever work in IT or in a position where people get to ask you questions day in and day out?

Yeah. I started out doing Helpdesk desktop pc support. Studied comp sci in college and now I'm a supervisor of an Engineering CAD department. Does that explain it?

These low scores are a bit disturbing. I'm wondering about how you guys are answering these questions. For instance "does it bother you to see an animal in pain?" That should be strongly agree. If not I think you might be a psychopath. "As a child would you ever cut up worms to see what would happen?" Strongly disagree guys. I used worms for fishing and I'd cut them in half to make the bait last longer. Never to see the worm suffer. Seriously wtf are you guys answering?

Your Empathy Quotient score was 65 out of a possible 80.
Scores above 30 are generally not indicitive of an Autism Spectrum disorder.
Higher scores indicate greater levels of empathy.

Only 65? Test is flawed. Nice effort though whoever created it.

I think the real answer is I just dislike humans. One of the only questions I immediately felt strongly about was "I prefer animals to people". A majority of the rest fall under 'shit I don't care about'.

Many people underestimate how unpredictable, uncaring and even dangerous some animals can be. They prefer animals because pets can be dominated, domesticated, don't talk back and are dependent on you for survival, so you have more of a sense of control over them. You don't have any obligation to be empathetic to them.

I chose the same answers for those two questions and only got 18/80.
