Its more than one beta. Its the no waiting in lines or caped download speeds.

We all don't pay. I get my FilePlanet, IGN, & GameSpy subscriptions free with my Comcast 8Mbps service (Game Invasion). I did subscribe to FilePlanet prior to that for $3.99 per month.

I was a free registered member so I decided to just get a subscription. Ok so I got my email from them and verified my email address but when I click the QuakeWars link it still asks me to login and that it's for subscribers only. WTF did I do wrong?

EDIT: Scratch that. Cleared my temp internet files and cookies and re-logged and it works now.

I tried the beta and so far I'm not impressed. The game plays exactly the same as BF2/BF2142. Crappy ground units with tons of vehicles everywhere. Looks like BF2 with the Quake universe.

It's 7 bucks for one measly month and you can cancel after that.

Although...it is nice to be downloading at nearly a megabyte a second now that I subscribed

Once installed I'll report back how it runs on my system and what setting it can handle

I've got a X2 4200 at 2.5 a 7800GT and a 19" Samsung widescreen that does 1440x900 with 2GB of ram.

Well initially fired it up no problems, actually detected totally maxed out setting for my 7800GT at 1440X900. Plays OK so far basically if your computer could handle Quake 4/Doom3 it should be able to handle this. Well update this post once I've got at least an hour play time under my belt.


EDIT:

So I've played for a little over an hour and I'm starting to get the hang of the certain classes. The servers I played on, GDF ruled the roost. I dunno if it was skill or what but GDF just owned all for over an hour.


Strogg subjectively have better vehicles at this point.

The deployables are definitely fun and interesting. If a little slow, but this map is also small. If the strogg were better it would have given more time for deployables and whatnot but the map is so tight it's tough for that at the moment.

Despite being a Beta the graphics look good, the animations need work badddddd however.

On that note, aiming needs some work too.

At this point I just remind myself that it IS a beta.

Yes it's like BF series but I'm liking this better just solely on the Quake setting. Plus like I said the graphics are decent AND it runs great on my system. I don't think BF2 was ever this stable

i posted in the other thread about it but i agree. i think its even worse than BF2, if that was even possible.

So, to those who played it, how brutal is the game? Meaning...how many shots does it take to down someone? Is it like Quake 2/UT where a single rocket to the face or a few well placed shots will down someone, or like Q3/UT2004/BF2 where it takes 20,000 hits and a lot of running around before someone goes down?

Ive gotten killed by one nade a few times.
Ive been shot by the sniper rifle and its a one shot one kill. The pistols take a few rounds to kill unless its a head shot.
The 4 Wheeler is fun to drive.

It's more like Q3/UT2004/BF2 IMO but it all depends on the gun.

No this is basically Enemy Territory ( A free game. if you've never heard of it, i suggest you DL it right away!) set in the quake universe. The gameplay is nothing like quake 3 ("Arena" gameplay). This is the prelude to Quake 2 in a more BF2-like gameplay (although enemy territory kicks BF2's ass. I'm just using BF2 as an example because it is widely known).

Overall I've heard most people are fairly disappointed with the beta. I've heard graphics are not very good either (especially with some far-away textures that were very low-detailed). What do you guys who have played the beta think about the graphics/performance?

graphics are ok, nothing to "write home about", except when you are zoomed in with a scope, especially with the strogg scope. everything is highly pixelated. maybe its supposed to be that way, i don't know, but it sucks.

the guns aren't much better than BF2's. They seem a bit more accurate than BF2's guns but not by much. the sniper rifles are horrible. after each shot the recoil makes your crosshair fly up 10 feet in the air. still takes like 3 shots to kill someone with a sniper rifle unless you hit them in the head, then its one shot.

my main gripes are with the weapons and the same stale old BF2 style gameplay. it feels a lot like it could be a BF2 mod.

how do the weapons and explosions *SOUND*? so many FPS's i've played lately have very weak sounding weapons, so when i blow someone apart, it's not that satisfying

example: just about anything in bf2 sounds like a peashooter compared to say.. the SMG in HL2 or FEAR's AR
