Enermax Aurora aluminum keyboard review

So I got this keyboard with great expectations.

Some backgroun explanation: As many of you know, MS has great ergonomic keyboards but they are butt ugly, for the most part. Logitechs have been my primary keyboard, however, the action of the Logitech keys seem to die out on me after a few months. I also have a Saitek Red Eclipse which is wonderful, but the keys have a lot of back pressure on them, and it can be fatiguing to work on a while.

Also, the Logitech Media Elite, my Logitech of choice, has huge footprint as does the G15. This can be a problem. the Saitek has an adjustable elbow rewst which is one of its strong points.

For those of you that do not know Deck keyboards is a serious contender for an elite keyboard, but I have yet to try it.

So enter the Enermax Aurora. It has a brushed alulminum and anodized black body. The only shortcoming is the lack of a palm rest, but who really wants a cheesy and flimsy snap on plastic one when you can get a much better gel one. Nonetheless, the aluminum finish quality and strength are first rate, not to mention the pure sexiness of the aesthetics. only the top of the KB is aluminum with the smaller base being plastic. Not a problem IMHO. The aluminum cap is about 3mm thick.

The build of it is exceptional, and it pairs beuatifully with Voodoo desktop chasses. The highest portion of the keyboard is about 1". The lid of the keyboard actually extends over the base creating a slick looking lip on either side. It is like a svelte anorexic runway model (this analogy is measnt in a good light).

The keyboard action? Oooh baby. It feels exactly like the best laptop keyoard you can think of. I love it. Perfect action. Period. We will see how long it lasts though. The corollary of this is tht I feel you will no longer have the adjustment period between mobile and desktop. They feel the same, but of course, the DT Aurora is far roomier.

This is the best keyboard that I have owned with the Saitek coming in second.

So don't attach that beige keyboard to your precious PC, put an Aurora in it. The Omen will get pleasure from it.

If it was backlit, then it would truly be perfect. Seem like no manuf. can make the perfect KB. No ia ma getting to thinking about ding some modding to it.

That keyboard is pretty neat.. I like simplicity of that keyboard. I bought 10 dollars Generic keyboard and 12 dollars optical mouse from Target for my old Dell Dimension 4300 and I had no problems with them..

Well, I wish the asthetics of my Model M were like that, but I'm not about to give up the Model M for anything else that can't match the exact same 101 key layout and springloaded keys.

Look liks a laptop style keyboard, which I can't stand.

I prefer a long travel for my keys. Laptops have a short travel.

Looks nice. I'm just wondering about the feel of the aluminum keyboard body on a cold day.

Does whether it is cold out or hot out change your houses tempeture to a point where it would be too cold to touch metal!?

Well, being cost conscious, when it's 60'ish I don't turn on the heat and I hate the feel of chilly surfaces when typing or using a mouse. Mostly personal preference I guess but it's why I only use plastic mouse pads and not the steel or glass ones. It's also the changes in temp as you move your hand around the keyboard or mousepad. You're bound to hit areas heated by constant touch and areas that are cooler due to ambient temperature. I just hate those hot and cold spots.

Enough explanations to cover your confusion? As always, input devices are all about personal feel and preference. I don't like the feel of cold metal on a mousing surface or keyboard. I have read about plenty of reviewers of mouse pads that don't either so it's not like I'm unique in that regard. No need for smart little comments.

A keyboard isn't perfect unless it makes LOUD clicks when you hit the keys. I forget sometimes how much I miss the old click keyboards.

The loud clicking on some keyboards can annoy the "other" during late night typing sessions.

I rather have a keyboard that will help curb wrist pain than have a keyboard simply because it looks good.

Yeah, I'm not into laptop-style keys. I like taller keys with crisp tactile feel and a good bit of throw. The old IBM/Lexmark keyboards were perfect. There is a company that is making them again, but so far I don't think they make black.

Otherwise, I have to say that is a sharp keyboard.
