EP35C-DS3R wont overclock :(

Tested with both sets of RAM runs fine @ 3.00GHz

The fault turned out to be the external HD (!!!) Its a Maxtor "always on" type where there is no on/off switch. It boots fine at stock but when i clock it I guess the external HDD causes problems. Everything works atm with +0.2 Ram volt and 1.4v vCore.

However, it is not detecting my other RAM (OCZ) and only reporting single channel. I am going to shutdown to check if I had seat it properly. Please don't tell me I fried the second stick

Would like to say thanks to all who helped esp. @ Martimus <3 for the external HD suggestion. I manage to maintain it so far @ 3.12GHz. I am very happy with the current clock and going to run Prime tonight to see if it's stable. Worrying thing though is that my CPU temp at idle is 42oC... ><

I have this board and have had random occasions where it wouldn't boot, do the three resets, then go back to un-overclocked. I had no idea why.

Does having an external HDD really cause it to reboot like this? Cause if so that would explain away a lot of frustration I have had with this board.

Will it still matter if I have the HDD plugged in but not powered on?

Hi there, well I have no problems so far if I unplug my External Drive. Mine doesn't have a power switch so I guess switching it off does the job in your case.

However, I met a new weird problem.

In my BIOS settings it shows 3.12 GHz clock but during POST and in CPU-Z it shows stock
o.0

Any ideas?

I beleive the external HDD issue has been resolved with a bios update. Download the latest bios update from the Giga website. And what version of CPU-z? You probably need to update that also.

When playing with new tech (penryn) it is not uncommon to have these type incompatabilities, stay on top of the bios updates for your board for a while.

Hmmm, yes I have, a Maxtor one attached to my USB hub. Does that affect anything? It's not set in the boot drive priority though.

Thanks ! Disabled Legacy USB and all is fine now I don't even have to unplug my External HDD this time

Currently running 3.2Ghz stable (-ish) @ 1.30Vcore and +0.1V DD2, x2 Ram Multiplier. 36-39oC idle

Gonna run some PRIME95 to test it further. Could reach 3.6 with around 1.5V Vcore but its not stable and temps reach 52oC idle
