EP45-UD3P, E8400 Problem

   I've been trying to change the settings to show my ram up as pc2-8500 (1066), it is showing up as pc2-6400/changed fsb a few times too, no cigar. Each time I make a change it will boot up to post and then shutdown. When I load fail-safe settings, the computer runs fine, no hiccups or anything. Now this is my first intel system. I bought everything and put it together myself. I'm currently on it right now. My CPU temperature also shows up as 99C, I heard that sometimes this chip reports false temps to this mobo. Obviously if it was 99C it would be on fire haha. The bios settings in this board are intimidating compared to all the asus boards I worked with. But wanted a new system I could eventually overclock once i got a new heatsink/fan.
   
   
3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
   Always works in fail-safe settings in BIOS.
   
   
4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
   
   
5. I already tried these steps:
   - reseated everything in the case besides the heatsink/chip (stock heatsink is a b**** to get in)
   - unplugged everything/plugged back in/switched powersupplies

So your trying to get your memory to run at 1066 but the system crashes at the post screen?

Gigabyte's bios: set fsb to 333mhz, the setting called "System Memory Multiplyer" set this to "3.20B". The general equation is 333x3.2=1066. The B represents 333mhzfsb frequency.

Set DRAM voltage to its manufacturer's specification, which is 2.0-2.1 in this case. Set it to 2.0 First then work your way up if it seems unstable.

Report back here if that doesnt boot your system properly at intended specifications.

Ended up taking everything apart and putting it all back together, now my temperatures read 44/45C. My computer is stable now but it is still running at (from what CPU-Z says PC2-6400 ram). Even after trying your reply phdchristmas
