I recently read a review that mentioned something bout the Epox 8RDA+, that i plan on getting not posting with low quality memory, well I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem I will be us. I am planning on buying p2700 xms corsair memory a 512 stick of ram for it, will that boot ok?

Also I was wondering if going up to 3200 is worth it for the extra overclocking speeds considering it's 20 dollars more.

It should work fine. Corsair is a brand name memory manufacturer. Definitely get the PC3200 over PC2700.

Well it wasnt nessisarily low quality now that i read it more that was the problem but the latency settings are just really low by default, but I should be ok with 3200 corsair?

I am running 2 sticks of Corsair PC2700 for a total of 1024, runs perfectly fine and the system gets good performance on 3dmark

wetcat007, the memory to stay away from with the Epox 8RDA+ is Crucial and Kingston ValueRam 512MB PC2700. I myself had trouble with the Kingston ValueRam but it wasn't a matter of not booting, the system would boot but not run anywhere near the advertised speed. My PC2700 would run at 145MHz with one stick installed and at 133MHz in DCDDR mode. That really pissed me off, too. So I got 1 512MB Corsair XMS PC3200 PT and I could run my system at the mobo's limits of 197MHz (I was limited by the low Vdd of the mobo).

Satisfied with those results I then went ahead and got 2 512MB sticks of Kingston HyperX PC2700 and installed them in DCDDR mode. I have been able to get them up to 185MHz at the fastest timings I dared to try at that speed (5-2-2 2.0) and set to 100%. So basically I think you will be fine if you get yourself the Corsair XMS or some nice Kingston HyperX.

Get two sticks, not just one, so you can run dual channel.

Will that effect how much of an oc i'll get? I wanted a 512 stick, because I plan on sometime later putting in another 512 and I like to conserve memory slots to leave upgrade room.

I too was wondering if it was worth spending another $95 to have a gig of ram in dual channel. Can you run single channel on the 8RDA+?

yes u can run single channel. You should also be able to run 2 X 256 sticks then later if u want buy another 512 stick and have them run in dual channel aswell. So 2 x 256 on a channel and the other 512 stick on the other channel.

Well I'd rather have a single stick of 512 running in there for now, i was just wondeirng if this would effect my speed at all, because eventually i would also be needing 1536 i suppose.

Also buying a 512 single stick would save me 20 dollars, so unless there's really any advantage to running dual channel with 2 sticks vs single channel on one stick, say somethin.

they say there is about 3-5% increase in performance with DC. to some thats not much for the price but to those who are in need for top performance I would say DC is the only way to go.

It might not fit your budget, but get some of the Corsair PC3200 for 75 (value ram of course)...

That way you could have 2x512 and be set.

Is the improvement from the Value to XMS series enough to warrant the $20 price increase?

More specifically, is the XMS much better for OCing? I'm planning to attempt OCing a 2500+ to 3000 or 3200+ speeds.

Well, I heard that it was, because I'm planning on doing some big time ocing, I'm talking a AMD Athlon 1700+ tbred b to a 200mhz bus, from the default 133. Plus some multiplier increases, to like 12 or 13. So I would assume it's worth it, because I want all the power to back up this oc i can get. So single channel shouldnt effect how much of an oc i can get? Because that's what I was really asking.

Yes the XMS is MUCH better for overclocking, grab some of that Corsair or Kingston Hyper X 3200... at least gives you the ability to 200+ fsb...

Cool. Wish I could afford 2 sticks of the XMS 512. Oh well, single channel it is, for a while anyway.
