I don't think it's going to get much better than this for a long time. That is the best scanner in it class, and better than most 1600 dpi scanners.

Great job Athena, very thorough. I will have to add that buy.com also has the Epson 1240U Perfection for $199 which has a transparancy scanner built in for those of you who want to scan your slides or larger film. Epson 1240U machines are noted for their extremely high color accuracy.

I, like Tantos, had also spent about 125$ on that scanner shipped within 14 days ago. I just got off the phone w/ my Staples CSR to do a pricematch w/ Buy.com so i could get another 15$ or so refunded to my credit card. She gives me this bull$hit, &quot;sorry, but you can only pricematch the same item once...&quot; I said, &quot;what??!! thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Ive got 14 days to pricematch this item or i can return for free, no questions asked. YOu tell me why i cant pricematch it. Go speak with your supervisor!!&quot; So, 10 mins pass, and she comes back, OK, we will be able to match it for 130 but then your 30 off 150$ coupon isnt valid so you end up paying more. FYI: This is one of the most annoying messages you can post here. The forum rules explicit prohibit posting coupon codes. An exception was made for the current printable coupons but there are many other codes in distribution. All you have to do to find coupon codes is use the keywords &quot;Staples&quot; &quot;Coupons&quot; in your favorite web search engine; there must be 50+ sites that post them.

Yeah, it's $129, but that's $70 off the Staples price. Still a great price for a good product. Can someone here who has one of the units tell us about its construction quality, scanning quality, etc? I'm looking to pick one up shortly.

Lore- I have the 1640 unit, which is a slightly different model, but my friend has the 1240U and the scans are remarkable. This is an excellent product.Fast, good quality and customer service is good also- I had a prob. with compatibility - I assume the new units have the updated software already. If not, the problem was that the copy button function (1 button copying) would not work unless you had an Epson printer, but there is a patch that will allow it to work with other printers (I have an HP). For quick tasks, the copy utility works for both B&amp;W and color. My friend has scanned photos on his scanner and then printed them out at 8X10, and they are photo-quality prints (and I tend to be a neurotic perfectionist, BTW).
Hope this helps- I am rec. the unit to a friend, which is why I cliked on the deal.

They can't be out of stock for Staples and in stock for Buy, or vice versa. Whether you order from Buy.com or Staples, the scanner comes from the same place -- Ingram Micro.

Were you trying to match online or over the phone? If it was over the phone, call back and talk to someone else.

Some other luck I had with the Envision Flat 17&quot; monitor. Ordered online with &quot;Online Only&quot; coupon. E-mail was sent shortly that the monitor was out of stock. Printed out the Out Of Stock email and my order print out showing applied coupon code and the nearest Staples B&amp;M was happy to sell me one of theirs with the discount -after I explained that it wasn't in stock on line.

Went to 2 local staples earlier and could't find the scanner there so I don't know if they are available at other B&amp;Ms.

I already talked to four CSR. Either they don't have it in stock, or buycom don't have it in stock, or the items are not totally identical or she wants to talk to a buycom CSR. Just a bunch of BS. :disgust: I tried to be nice but eventually pointed out all the holes of their excuses on the last call. She insisted that she want buybom phone number to talk to someone. I canceled the order anyway. Don't have the luck like alfonsors :| May try again later if I have time. But it won't spoil my days if I don't get it
