What about the claim that "when the ink drains from the the color cart you can't print even B&W until you buy a new color cart?" Does that happen in the 880? All this ink draining when you're not even printing seems pretty to me. Is it really best to leave the printer on all the time?

I was sent a tip that may be a way to get around the problem of the color cart showing empty & then not being able to print in B&W. If you remove the color cart & then just put it back it will reset the system & you can then print in B&W. I haven't tried it. I will when my color cart ink disappears even though I never use it. I hope it works.
I used to shut my printer off whenever I wasn't using it. So... if I printed something I would often shut the printer off after printing. If I needed to print again that day I would then turn the printer back on which would then initiate another charge & clean cycle. It wasted a lot of ink. So... I just started leaving the printer on all of the time to save ink. It still cycles the ink carts when you restart your computer.
Epsons waste ink. You'll see if you buy one. I'm going with an HP next time I purchase an inkjet printer. Read some of the Usenet posts on clogging Epsons & Epsons wasting ink.

<< It may be "cheating" but not illegal. I used my original receipt (unlike many of the reciepts posted here which people use to get PM'es or discounts) to mail in for the $30 MIR. I guess I also "cheated" when I went to my Nissan dealer and had them sign the test drive voucher for a radio when I never actually drove the Xterra...

Yeah there is something called moral values... Ethics...etc. I am sure Cheating and then be absolutely shameless to boast about it and proudly announcing to the world how you cheated others too on different occasion say highly about your values.
>>

<yawn> I guess I missed the meeting where you were appointed you the moral crusader... (I do see you overclocked your PII, isn't that "cheating" since you're not using it the way the manufacturer sold it?) Enough of this pissing match - this is a forum for posting "hot deals" not debating morals. If you don't like the deal, don't do it. As long as the posts are not SPAM or not causing people to break the law to get the deals, they're allowed here.

Since when is pricematching a price that you actually payed considered cheating anyway? I think he was lucky that they gave him an IR but that's about it. Some people should get off their high horse before the the horse kicks them off. And if the ink is that cheap, I'm definitely getting one of these puppies.

<< So... I just started leaving the printer on all of the time to save ink. ...Read some of the Usenet posts on clogging Epsons & Epsons wasting ink. >>

For those who are interested -- leaving the printer on for extended periods when it is not in use is the primary cause of clogged inkjets. Why? Because when you turn off the printer, the print head is parked on a special pad at the end of the carriage that is designed to keep the jets from drying out. If you leave the printer on all the time (or use a power strip instead of the button on the printer), the heads are not parked and you too will eventually be whining about clogged jets -- because you thought you knew better than to follow the instructions that come with the printer.

Well.... there you go. Just another reason to never buy Epson printers. As implied by your post Epsons are prone to clogging.... along with being ink guzzeling ripoffs.

You know what's funny, is my Epson 600 used to clog all the time. Then I bought a cheap refill kit and refilled my cartridges with them. After that, it never clogged! The refill kit cost me something like $17.95 shipped and is supposed to be able to refill 50-100 times (black is 6oz, colors are all 4oz). It barely took any to refill my empty carts. I personally don't think it guzzles ink as I have only had to refill my 600 once, and that was late last summer. I usually print a couple sheets of black every day.

I bought the 880 because my 600 is slow and noisy. The 880 is a big improvement, it's much faster. I think it's at least as fast as the HP932c. It's also much quieter. The paper advance motor is probably a wee bit noisier than an HP, but the printhead tracking motor is whisper quiet. I think this is a good printer, but not as good of a deal as this thread implies, because the Epson rebate is not valid on Staples purchases.

I'm not sure if they sell refills for my 860. But, after reading all of the success stories with cheap refills & 3rd party carts I will give them a try. I was always afraid to use anything other than Epson carts because I had read that using anything other than Epson carts was the primary reason for Epson clogs.

Why would the Epson rebate not apply to Staple's purchases? There is nothing in the terms for the coupon posted at Epson that excludes Staples.

Read the fine print.
"Void where prohibited or restricted by law. U.S. customers only: if you are purchasing at Staples, you must use its form and submit your rebate claim through its in-store procedures."

Unfortunately, from what I was told Staples is not aware of this rebate or why they were excluded. As a result, they don't currently have an "in-store procedure" for this rebate.

says at the bottom of that one and the paper one i got from novice peeple
"U.S.customers only: if you are purchasing at Staples, you must use its form and submit your rebate claim through its in-store procedures. Other retailers may also require use of their own in-store coupon, rather than this coupon, to claim this Epson rebate. Please check with the retailer at the time of purchase."
good luck getting some one to make heads or tails of it--csrs at compusa couldn't do nothing for me

LOCATING GREAT PRICES ON
EPSON AND CANON AFTERMARKET INKJET CARTRIDGES

This procedure has worked well for me, and I have never experienced a single problem. I do print alot, and yet I prefer a color inkjet over a laser because it allows me the flexibility of printing whichever I need at the time. I do take a second when printing and select BLACK over "color" for most jobs, as all I need is a quick copy. I hope what I
share here will work well for others here. I use an Epson 900, but please know that there are only 2 or 3 after market actual cartridge manufacturers. Most all sellers purchase from a few mftrs. And in general, what other have shared here is true. The inks work VERY well,
and there are times where an after market cartridge may actually prove to be less troublesome than an actual Epson (or Canon) product. I have a friend who prints out alot of really nice photos she has taken, and for those, she prefers the ink colors of CANON cartridges in her Canon. In my Epson, I have not experienced a significant color difference.

What did I pay a month or so ago for cartridges ? Well, please keep in mind that the cartridges for Epson 900's and 980's are ALOT larger in capacity than for other models - Even by other manufacturers. And even
so, the prices can be STAGGERINGLY LOW ! I paid $2.99 for BLACK ones and
$4.99 for COLOR ones. And since we ordered 12 at a time, there was no shipping charge. What I did on this order was get a friend of mine, who also has an Epson, an Model 770, to also order some at the same time.
When they are THIS cheap, ya gotta go with the flow. Haha !

Most Resellers do NOT mind mixing and matching. So that is not a problem.

But ? HOW did I locate this seller ?

It was VERY simple. I went to EB*y, and did a search for Epson 900.
I looked at the prices shown in the search list until I located a few sellers with low prices. I then clicked on his/her EB*y rating until I found some with EXCELLENT feedback ratings and only a few negatives.

IF you keep looking, many of the seller will have web pages. The prices on the web pages MAY be higher than what is shown on FleaB*y. And many have an 800 number you can call to order. And use a credit card.

I do have a few rules I always follow:
For ink cartridges, I will only order FROM the Reseller, using his EB*y price, using an 800 number to his "store."
And, I will only order using a credit card for payment.

Here is an example of a FleaB*y Reseller who fits this description: And I have NO connection with him whatsoever and have not purchased from him( I cannot find my last Reseller's web site - sorry).

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1244928104
Great rating .... 800 Number to order ... Free shipping if you order 12 ... and he accepts credit cards for payments.

Better yet .... Here is a Reseller who has an almost PERFECT Rating, The 880 BLACK cartridges are $3.65, and his color ones are $5.95. In this case you have to pay shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1245610529
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1245610531

Look around on Eb*y. Again, there are only about 2 or three mftrs of these. So the only difference is the a) Price and b) Terms.

This suggestion works for alot of others items as well. EB*y can
become a wonderful "research" tool if used properly.

Hope this helps many people. And good luck to all.

By the way, If you find an ink reseller you like, and you do not see
a current auction listing for the particular cartridge you are seeking, CALL HIM ! More than likely he has it !

Yes, you are right -- I missed that exclusion. Wonder if Staples will be running some sort of special on theirs?

Epson black carts for 3.25

Epson color carts fo 5.95

I have order from this site three times since 11/00 and have had no complaints in facts the carts have arrived within four days everytime I've ordered.

As far as the 880 is concerned its a great printer fast, quiet, great prints(cd inserts on good quality stock are hard to distinguish from the actual covers.
Yes it does use a little more ink than others, but being able to get two black and two color carts forabout 23.00 who cares!I'd also say that when using the generic carts the print heads require less cleanig than using OEM epson carts
I do a lot of printing(cd and dvd covers) and this machine has never given me anything but perfection.

The Epson web site only list Costco and Staples as locations where you cannot use the rebate. So you should be able to get it from CompUSA for $69 + tax after rebate.

Epson Site

Edited link it had a session id in it that I didn't notice. I was in a hurry earlier today. Sorry!

Click on the rebates link from Epson's home page to view info.

just spoke w/ Epson's rebate center, they will accept rebates for CompUSA, also BestBuy, and Sears... i'm waiting to call (time Zone difference) Epson's main office to find out why they won't honor a Staples purchase.

so CompUSA purchases are OK for the rebate.
