I have bought my last 4 printers and one scanner from epson, all refurbished, and have beat the crap out of them, and even to this day they all still work as I have passed them on to my wife and kids. I have even bought a Photo scanner from them as well, and have yet to have a single problem. BUT the best thing bout epson printers is the fact the ink can be had for them from Meritline, Swift ink, or 123Ink, DIRT CHEAP! For my RX680 printer I just bough high yield ink from 123, 14 carts total, for $55 shipped, comes out to less then $5 a cart shipped. And every now and then if you want close to OEM ink, Swiftink has sales on theirs which come out print wise to be the same as, or better then OEM.

You cant go wont with Epson, and this one here has the scanner built in, prints without the need for it to be hooked to a computer as well. Pretty much does it all but print on CD's, and at $32 shipped, what a deal for a printer that ink is super cheap to buy for.

Here is the one above, it not only does the above, but prints on CD/DVD's as well.

I think this is the printer they always give our for free at Frys when you buy a PC. It is cheap cuz its a rip-off. I read reviews online. While it looks nice and flashy, there are quite a few things wrong with it. #1 it wont print black ink if other inks are out. #2 it uses a lot of ink.

You might also want to check if this printer allows you to buy non-epson ink as some printers will only allow epson ink and epson ink is quite pricey.

Here are some amazon reviews Link

Well as I would somewhat agree with the reviews on the ink, I will give them to drink ink ONLY if your using epson ink, and even so, if people would take the time to look through their drivers they will see that there is a spot within it in the advanced tabs to switch it around from normal, to high use, to light use, cant remember the exact words used, but point is you can tone it down from eating ink. And I have found that when you use genuine epson ink it seems to go fast, SUPER fast, as if they dont bother to even fill the carts all the way. Using Swit inks, vs meritlines, I have found to get more prints out of swift ink then meritline, and Im going to test out 123ink next.

As for not printing blacks when your out of color, thats really scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for something more to bitch about when ink for these are so cheap, that your that cheap not to bother just putting more ink in your printer and bitching because you ran out of color and it wont print no more. I am glad it does this myself for it serves a PURPOSE, it is so that you dont get AIR into the print heads when your out of a color, then drying up in the print heads when 2 months down the line you finally decide to spend $20 and get all new ink, and then throw a fit that your reds and yellow no longer prints anything anymore because the head is clogged up with crusty dried up ink from printing when empty

But it comes down to is:
1. You dont buy Epson ink, but ones that say High Yield or something to that effect.
2. if you still think it drinks ink, then change the setting within the driver settings, read the manual, thats what its there for, or thats why there is an advanced tab under properties, though I feel printing over 100 cd/dvds with a set of carts that cost $5 each shipped, I got my money worth out of them myself.
3. You cant print no more when your out of ink with any color, including blacks, for its saving your ass from trouble later because your print head is clogged with dried up ink that was left in it from running it empty. With the ones that have the heads built on the carts, it will print for your just going to throw them, and the PRINT HEADS away. You dont want to chance it clogging when your print head is built in, now do you???

Here is what I am talking about that you can adjust in the driver so you can tone down the eating of ink, IF you feel it is eating too much of it.

I have yet myself to have to try it, but it is here if I need to use it should I ever be that broke to be close to being out, and not having any new ones on hand I suppose.

Ink for it:

123inkjets

search google before you check out for a coupon for this site.

Swift Ink

See top of HD section for 20% off

Meritline

Again search google, may be a code to save you more money

Megatoners, the cheapest, at $3.99 a cart.

Again search google.

But again my point is still, the printer is $32 shipped, dirt cheap, and has a scanner, ink for it is cheap, even to the point that if it DOES suck ink faster then a whore paid $20, it still comes out cheaper then you will ever have paid if you ended up buying a HP/Lexmark or the like with the ink and heads built in one unit. And if you need one to print on dvd like I do for I do a lot of video converting and editing for the community, $55 is a steal for the printer/scanner, and still be able to buy cheap ink for it too. I really do not understand the hate for epson. I can see it if I was paying out the ass for ink maybe, but as low as $3.99, whats really to bitch about, your able to print anything and everything to your hearts desire without much worry.

So does the refurb come with ANY ink? I've always had good luck with Epson printers...

mine AWAYS have, and every one I have gotten from them were packed and even smelled new, with all the tape all over them, and backing blocks to keep things from moving around. My newest one even came to me in the oem box instead of a plain brown box.

got ink with mine when i got one about 4 month ago, but never known a printer to go thru ink so fast. thinking of giving this away to a friend/family member and finding one that's going to be cheaper to run

I have this printer and it definitely uses the color inks when the black runs dry. In fact the drivers even ask you if you want to do so when the print jobs starts.

So it is recommended that I should buy ink from Swiftink? Mine has been out for awhile, haven't gotten the chance to go get some, but $5.99 a cartridge sounds good...

I have had very good results with Swift Ink in my Brother and Cannon printers. I have bought from them time and time again.

thanks funboy

Wish we could give reps around here because not only did you post a good deal but you also included a lot of useful information. How would you compare the RX595 to the R280? Do those still come up for sale at epson.com?

I bit and got one. My wife and son are perfectly happy with the 7400 and the 8400 we have now. At this price, it's worth having another printer for me that shares the same ink cartridges.

I upgraded from the R280 to the RX680, the higher up from the RX595, and I love mine. I call it my Transformer for when you go to print on cd's you push a button and a whole new tray pops up from inside it to accept the CD/DVD tray, which I about crapped my pants when I saw that for the first time. Also the tray has yet to get stuck or not want to be drawn into the unit that my old R200 and r280 tend to do after much use. They would either not get sucked in right without a push, or would get sucked in, and then right out the back. This one seems to line up much better, the tray for the discs is wider as well as thinner too.

I dont know if the RX580 has that transforming feature, but at $55 it seems like a great deal, and if you want the RX680 they have it too on sale for $85 shipped.

As for swift ink I have yet to ever have a problem with them, or even the meritline stuff for that matter, in my printers. Im giving 123ink a try right now for they had the sale with 14 carts for $55 shipped and they are the slightly larger capacity ones, so I figured what the hell.

I dis-like megatoners and have not bought from them for over 5 years when I bought a few sets for my at that time new R200, they clogged up my heads really easy and was cleaning them often wasting ink, then swiftink come out, and was buying from them till meritline had a super sale of 48 ink carts, 8 of every color, for $68 shipped. I just a few months ago used the last of them in the r280.

But all in all I have been more then happy with these epson printers aside of the fact the ink may be used a bit faster, I dont really think so myself really, but with seperate ink tanks, no print heads built in, and the cost of each around $5~ shipped when on sale, you cant really bitch at all. I print everything all the time without worry about my ink, EVER, since ditching the old lexmarks and Hp's and their out of this world $60 for color $30 for black and if you run out of red, but still have blue and yellow, youre forced into buying a new cart anyway. And I will never refill again after I ruined my desk and the ink wehn everywhere.

But people just got to bitch about something I guess, even when the crap is super cheap

And Im glad some people like what and how I post. I hate going into them and just see.
Printer $32 and thats it.
I try to put up stuff I have experence with so I can help people make good choices when it comes to the things I post. I love helping people on the internet or in person, it gives me great joy in doing so. And no, Im never paid by anyone for the things I post or say about the products, its just how I roll
Though I wouldnt complain if I was paid, or got a free product for what I post and say about them, not one bit at all , but Im really happy just doing what I do, and can sometimes give my 2cents or books about it.
