Error after upgrading RAM

Hey all,

I just upgraded from 2x256MB DDR333 Kingston HyperX to 2x512MB DDR400 Corsair ValueSelect, and now every time I start Windows, it gives me this message after logging in:

"One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful."

And while I'm happy that "the recovery was successful" and my system's okay for now, I'd never gotten that error before.

My system is as follows:

Athlon XP 2.2 GHz (3200+)
2x512MB Corsair ValueSelect DDR400 2.5-3-3-8
Shuttle AN35/N Ultra nForce2 motherboard
eVGA 128MB GeForce 6600GT AGP
Seagate 250 SATA hard drive

The only thing I changed was the RAM. Any ideas?

Thanks for the links, and yes, I am overclocking, but not the RAM. I pushed the FSB from 166 to 200 for the CPU. The RAM is rated for DDR400, so it shouldn't be a problem. I tried it with timings at SPD settings (2.5-3-3-8) and at 3-3-3-8; both to no avail. Ran for 45 minutes (about one test) through memtest, and it was fine.

All right, I de-overclocked. Processor's running at at 1.83 and RAM's running at DDR333 2.5-3-3-7 (assigned by the motherboard). Restarted a couple times, still getting the error. Memtest still sees no problems. Is the RAM just incompatible with my board?

Take the RAM out, and plug in the old stuff - just to see what happens.

Hm, could be. I have some Ballistix ssPC3200 RAM that would memtest stable for 24-hours in both a DFI Ultra-D and an ASUS A8N-SLi, but I could never get an uncorrupted Windows installation. I threw in a 512 stick of Corsair VS and everything was fine.

Crucial said that the RAM was compatible with both boards, but in the case of the ASUS board, the QVL didn't have the PC 3200 listed (the ds sflavor of the sticks were in it though). Not surprisingly, the VS RAM was listed and it worked fine. So check the Mobo's QVL and see if there might be a discrepancy.
