error....pls need help

Seems like my aunt delected a file which is required to start windows98, I get this messg below when I turn on my aunt's computer, ppl told me to run it in MS-DOS, press ctrl and restart but nothing works.....pls someone help

Windows has detected a Registry/Configuration error Choose, Command Prompt only, and run SCANREG

Funny, because I thought I remembered having to press F8 at bootup to choose to boot to DOS in win98, not control.

Exactly what have you tried and how far have you got?

Why not try booting with the CD in the drive so you can have it repair windows. Also the F8 sounds more familiar to me as well. I hope its not the boot into safemode key. If you have any friends with win98 having them make you a boot disc could help.
