Error upon XP pro install

this is a fresh build:

ASUS P5GD2-Deluxe
Corsair DDR2 533 2 Gb
Seagate 300G HDD
Intel P4 3.6 Ghz processer
ASUS ATI X700 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2Z
MSI DVD-ROM
NEC DVD+/- RW

When i start to install windows it will load the basic drivers then when it starts to load windows for the install i get the following message:

Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer

If this is the first time you're seeing this error, restart the computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Check for viruses on your conputer. Remove all newly installed hard drives or hard driver controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it's properly configured and terminated.. Run Chkdsk /f to check for hard driver corruption, and restart your computer.

Any input would be appreciated, i'm at a loss, and starting to get dfrustraited(had numberous problems with build(was shipped bas PSU and mobo to start, always a bad start to a build) and things keep getting worse.....

1. Make sure your XP setup CD is good (no scratches).
2. Make sure your hard drive and DVD drives are connected securely with the proper cables (80-pin IDE for the HD).
3. Make sure your memory is securely installed. Test with Memtest.

Incidentally, if you want to make full use of that monster hard drive, you'll need to slipstream SP2 on your XP setup CD (SP2 may already be integrated if you just bought XP).

What kind of power supply are you using? It may not be powerful enough for all that hardware.

ok, it started to load windows, but had to abort the install until later, but looks like its wants to work now, i'
ll update to let you both know, thanks againf for the input, non of the suggestions seemed to change anything, but, i left the system off and just tried to install today, and viola! it worked.

and i;'m using a generic 520 PSU, voltages are ok from PSU, and in bios, so must have been something else. I'll post more information later on what may have made a difference.

Sounds like it's possibly bad memory. Try switching out the memory for another stick and or swapping them if you have two. IE put one in only and try and install Windows. If it doesn't work, try the other. You'll find out which stick is the culprit.
