Sounds like a faulty board or RAM...

You were on the right track there. I got in to it last night, the mobo defaulted my ram to 1333mhz and had some jacked up timings. Changed profile to xmp and have been mining for hours with no crash. Stupid of me not to check that sooner. Oh well, Im up and running now. Thanks for your input.

Looks like my prediction came true, it popped over $10 multiple times and looks to be hanging there now.

I'm pretty happy considering I went all-in with my reserve USD at $7.xx

There's money to be made, and I think anyone who was able to buy some ETH as it dipped below $9 got a hell of a deal today. The big loser wasn't ETH or ETC, it was BTC. That value will not be recovered easily.

ETH/BTC was actually quite stable yesterday, other than a dip around when the Bitfinex news broke. Really all the alt coins (even the more promising ones like Eth) are still pretty tied to the price of Bitcoin. The tanking down to $7 was mostly due to BTC falling under $500, and most of the recovery to $10 is BTC climbing back up closer to $600.

We'll see what the value of the funds stolen ends up being. It's sounding right now like ~120kBTC, so not an insubstantial amount.

What the heck? The 8GB version has same 8GHz speed as the RX 480 8GB versions?

So its a complete waste to get 4GB, 7GHz version of the RX 480 on Ethereum, when the 8GB RX 470 would do better.

470 is now on my watchlist, looking like a pretty good ROI for the price.

Looks like the big windows 10 update hit. Any news on improvements for ETH hashrate on pascal?

Genoil is supposed to get Pascal working with dual mining soon.

Vaulter posted another interesting workaround in post # 490 on how to get 1080 to work under Windows:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1464999.480

I don't have a Pascal card to try but if anyone has, give it a go. I would like to replace my main rig with Pascal SLI and mine in Windows, while relegating all AMD cards to dedicated mining rigs. Waiting until Pascal can work under W7-10.

Somewhat . . . BTC is still in a battered state, hanging around $560 or so. ETH is going back up (slowly) on its own. But yeah that hack shook things up. ETC just gained a lot of the value from people dumping BTC at that time. ETH didn't. Looks like people bought gold too.

ETH will do fine in the long run. Eventually it will "outgrow" BTC. It'll just take time.

It's a pity the 470 came out second, no? That card would have been nice 1-2 months ago when we still had more time to mine. Once we go to Casper . . .

Pardon my ignorance, as I dont keep up with the mining news like I probably should, but whats this Casper you guys are talking about? How will it affect us eth miners?

This will switch the blockchain to Proof of Stake instead of Proof of Work effectively ending GPU mining ethereum as we know it.

Let the copy cats have their day. If anything this further solidifies Ethereum as a valid platform and ether as a crypto currency. Bitcoin had how many alternates, 500?

As for the 470, by the time you get your hands on them you'll be mining for 3 - 4 weeks on the 480's likely closing price gap considerably in earned ether. Not to mention the resale value will be higher. Will be good for people who want to dabble and when readily available for 6x mining rigs. The 480's are still selling out in very little time on NewEgg.

Just to add to the above more details about Casper should be revealed in September at a couple major conferences. Hopefully we'll learn more about timing and implementation. GPU mining may still play a role but to what degree we don't know yet. I'm excited about three second block times and sharding for scalability purposes. If they get this right it should propel Ethereum much further ahead of the competition.

As for the ETC trolls saying "we'll just copy paste any new desirable features" this comcept has some serious limitations. Think of Digix. (Crypto backed precious metals). You think Digix will work with ETC or the copycats? No way. The ETC folks would have to stand up their own Digix like company to compete as Digix will only accept legitimate crypto built on legitimate platforms. This will probably be true of other apps like Augur and whatever else is revealed in Shanghai soon.

So unless ETC gets serious development support it'll likely be left behind and eventually fizz out as Ethereum evolves. Also many of the major developers have claimed they're 100% commiteed to developing on the proper Ether fork, no help for ETC.

Well, it was bound to happen at some point. Got a defective card (Powercolor reference RX 480) which had me scratching my head at BSOD issues on a six card rig I put together. After hours of troubleshooting and reinstalls finally isolated it to the card, which has screen corruption over HDMI (green bars/fuzz) and causes BSODs.

That's what I get for not using my test rig to properly test each new card before assembling a six card rig.

Honestly I don't think any of my boards have that feature. Maybe the A88x-Pro does buried in the UEFI.

Look for Restore AC After Power Loss... I'm fairly certain your other boards should have this feature in the BIOS, I never gave it any thought until I started mining.

I ended up ordering a few of those Belkin Insights... It'd be really cool, and I don't know if this is possible, if it could use IFTTT to send me a notification if power draw drops below 500W for example (then I know the rig has crashed). I know Ethermine has email notification for downed workers but there tends to some lag time until I get the email.

Also note you're a little unbalanced with your 290 GPU/Memory speed ratio. You need to watch the GPU memory usage while mining (for some reason you have this monitoring disabled?). Anyways, at 1030Mhz core you shouldn't need to set your memory any higher than 1125Mhz. This will lower your wattage a little more. The goal is to get your memory usage to roughly 95% but watch your hashing output to ensure you're not negatively impacting performance. Hynix memory works a little different than Elpedia etc.

Does the 95% rule apply to the RX480 as well?
At 980/2200 the memory controller load is ~88%

I am guessing that Vitalik and company will have more pressure on them to move to Casper/PoS soon to differentiate ETH from ETC, but we'll see. Pressure only moves so much. There's also pressure to make sure that the transition is a smooth one.

Anyway my personal guesstimate is PoS starting in Feb/March 2017, but I could be wrong.

ETH seems to be recovering, reaching $11.10 as I type.

Good outcome for those of us who traded their ETC at $3.30 for ETH at $7.50. BTC seems to be picking up a little as well. Only question is how long ETC will hold on for.

Why are the 470 prices so high here in Canada?!
They shouldn't be selling for more than 480s but some of them are!

They are in the USA too. $179 MSRP is already too close to 480 4GB. Some custom models are $239 for the 470!!!! AMD really effed this up as usual.
