Ethernet not recognized

I have just had my new internet installed. It consists of a router mounted on the roof of my building, connected by wire to the ethernet port in my computer. Router works via wireless internet, not phone line. The term used here in Jordan is WiMax.

My problem: No internet connection after plugging in to the ethernet port. Support technician of the ISP was with me at the time. Confirms that the problem is not from their side, rather from my desktop itself. A quick windows troubleshoot confirmed that the ethernet drivers are not installed. I already had my drivers installed. Uninstalled and re-installed again just to be sure. Still no sign of life.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have all the latest drivers already downloaded and installed to my system.

Dumbfounded, the technician left me to sort out this problem myself. Please help me?

Did you check the BIOS and make sure that the LAN Card is actually On.

Verify the cable between the modem and you PC. Try another if you have one available; one that is confirmed good, and preferably one that is not hand-built/home-built.

Are you getting a link light on both ends? The link light will show continuity, but not necessarily "up & running."

As mentioned above, be sure it's enabled in the BIOS, verify that you're not using a crossover cable, and double-check that you are connected to the correct port on the router (LAN, not WAN).
