it works alright.

if your wiring in your house is old, or just crap it doesn't work / very well.

new homes with clean power do the best. I've used it in a few places that didn't want me to run cat5e in their walls (weirdo's) they mainly use it for internet sharing and don't play internet games. only one place I've had to remove it because it just wouldn't work. YMMV use at your own risk.

I live in a old house... my cable modem is in the downstairs back room... which doesn't have the second story on top, this means the signal has to go through 2 sets of insulation, 1 wall, and a metal roof to get upstairs (which is where I want to move my computers).

I was hoping to use EoP to link upstairs to the back room, but as we have old wiring I don't think its worth gambling ~$80 on the hardware.

As its not our house, I can't run cat5 either...

guess I'll just have to look for some wifi antennas...

It is the solution of last resort.

It works OK. However considering the price Tag for a 10-15Mb/sec. Duh!!!

If you need any additional Hardware like a Router, or a Bridge, the availability is very limited and you pay an Arm and a Leg.

In other words, plan ahead and compute a total cost according to what you perceive you would need in the Future, Then figure out the cost and see if you have better alternatives.

Curto, a neighbor of mine used HomePNA v1 for a while and it worked fine for them. His HomePNA SOHO router (a Linksys or something) broke and he looked into getting a new one, and for the money, it was a better move for him to buy 802.11b gear for everywhere as a replacement, and that got him better performance and a less obscure technology. I'd recommend you consider wireless over HomePNA because wireless has both more market share (=cheaper) and more mind share (=better supported).

The final considerations are very similar I would go with Wireless too.

However this Guy is talking Home Plug, or Power Line Network.

It goes through 110VAC lines of the House, as oppose to HPNA that goes through the phone lines.

POE is Power over Ethernet. I.e. using the "Spare" wires in the CAT5 to move the 12V DC to an Access Point or a similar device.

The poster here refers to EOP. Ethernet over Powerline.

This is a method that uses the 110VAC line in the house to move Ethernet Signal.

I never saw before the abbreviation EOP, as far as I know the official name of this technology is HomePlug.
