But been really busy with my trader since I gotten mine freighter a couple of weeks ago. Been making a killing and watching the isk pile up is quite a bit of fun in itself as well as market pvp

I plan on creating a Trader/hauler alt within the next week. Any tips on how to get into the trading business?

Save up for a freighter.

This pretty much. I have a miner character as well and between the miner/hauler I was able to rake in a lot of cash plus some smaller scale buying and selling.

But once I got my Obelisk, man the cash flow really kicks up to another level.

Biggest advice I can give besides get a freighter, is too start taking notes of different markets and see what has a high sell rate and start comparing to other areas. Selling popular pvp ships near more active 0.0 space can net you some real nice profit if you can dual box you can scout out ahead of your freighter for entering into low sec and the jump to a station as well as leaving. Late night when the server is close to going down or right after it comes back up are probably the "safest" times to do it.

Thanks. That is a good idea.

I used to increase the profit on my minerals by building battleships and selling them (starting with cruisers and then moving up). Once I had saved enough and skilled enough for a freighter, my profits really took off as I could bulk buy minerals. Because of all the kill rights on me i now have, i don't fly my freighter much with my main, but using a freighter is pretty key.

Other tried and true trading profits are buying modules for less than mineral value and then melting them down and selling the minerals (needs standings for no tax to melt and training so you get no loss when melting the minerals) or buying salvage in low sec via buy orders and then using small cloaky ships to get the items as salvage is very small. You then resell in market hubs or make rigs and sell them with the built in margin over and above the salvage.

That last one sounds like a good idea that I could do now. I think I will set up some buy orders in the L4 agent centers in our space for the components I need for my rig BPO's.

One day in Eve

Yesterday was fairly action packed for us. The background is that we have been doing more in 0.0 recently and have been a little thin on the ground in our low sec home. There is a mainly Australian time zone Alliance that is close to us that we have been fighting with forever and we're fairly sure they have a spy alt or 2 in our Alliance.

So a few days ago, they gang up with some mercs and raid our low sec systems in a 30+ battleship gang. We have very few people on during that timezone and they attack 3 POSes. One was just a placeholder and had previously been reinforced, so it popped. Another had really poor amounts of stront in it and only had a 6 hour timer so it was vulnerable during our slow time and they were still active, so they popped it too. They put the 3rd into reinforced and they dropped a small tower at that spot with some basic fittings.

So we call a CTA to pull us back to our home systems and get our capital fleet ready for POS repping. A few of our friends from 0.0 come down to be with us as well. Right before the POS comes out of reinforced, an Alliance called Bright Side of Death comes by. They visit 1 or 2 times a weekend in a remote rep BS gang and they often have a triage carrier or 2 available. We form up on theb gate they would come through, they scout us and then go away. We know that means they're getting their capital fleet together.

We jump to the POS and start up the capital shield repair units on the carriers. We are most of the way done when the BSOD gang comes back. We pull our support ships to the POS and keep repping away. They're scouting us again. With our carriers in system (and some dreads on standby, we have way more than they do, but they know that so we know they have their capital fleet ready. They get bored and leave. Our scout gets to their home system and finds over 30 cap ships ready to jump us. We get the POS back online and the cap fleet and support fleet goes back to our main system.

So far we had gathered a big fleet together but not had a fight. Like normal, the ADHD PvPers start whining and frothing at the mouth for a fight. One of our allies reports to us that some enemies are using a dread at a near suicide station to undock behind people undocking to bump them out of docking range and then kill them. We get a bait Navy Megathron ready but the dread pilot gets bored and logs off. We still decide to try and kill their BS gang that was doing the ganking on the station. So the bait undocked, they bite on the bait and the cyno goes up.

Stupid capital drop

There actually were 3-4 more carriers that dropped. We looted the wrecks and jumped back home.

The enemy POS was coming out of reinforced in a few hours, so we formed up a small HAC/BC gang. We have been experiementing with smaller ships and remote repping ships. We were planning on roaming when a 15+ man neutral fleet entered our space. Most of them were BS, we were all in smaller ships except for me, another logitics Dominix and the bait Navy Megathron. They set up so they had 2 bait ships on the gate and most of their fleet on the other side (with a few more in our system).

So we were faced with a 15 man fleet, at least 10BS in the enemy fleet and we had 3 BS and some smaller ships, but were outnumbered. What did we do? This:

The Slaughter

They attacked the outlaw Navy Megathron (I tried to bait in my Domi, but no good) and jumped their gang through the gate to help. There were 10 BS there over the fight but they showed up in small waves.

Ignore the Thanatos and the hauler kills (the killboard goes by time for related kills). We faced them down, had global criminal countdown and fought 4 minutes of hell. We were constantly broadcasting the need for remote rep help. And killing. And killing. And killing. 4 minutes of killing. We had to react immediately when the need for reps was called as small ships have a very small buffer. The managed to get on of our Brutixes to 1/2 hull but could not bring it down. Their morale broke, they deagressed and jumped through the gate.

So 8 enemy ships down for zero losses for us and we were outnumbered and out gunned the entire fight.

The last part of the day was the enemy POS that was coming out of reinforced. By then, we had lost a lot of our Euro members and had a tiny cap fleet. 20 minutes before the POS was able to be shot, our scouts saw them form up another 30+ man BS fleet and start rolling towards us. We had 15 pilots ready at that point and another 10 coming as fast as they could. The FC made the call to get to the gate and try and hold them there. We got 15 ships to the gate and had 2 carriers undocked. They hit the gate and scouted. And hesitated.

I was spamming Alliance chat and our intel chat demanding that more people join. People hurried and started arriving in 1's while our allies burned towards up. Their FC continued to hesitate. At any time if they had attacked us, they would have won. But now our friends arrived and we had fairly even numbers. Their morale broke and they decided to stand down. They headed back to their home system. We went over to their POS and this was the result.

POS goes down

Note that Martimus helped kill the POS in his Thorax ...

I finally have a POS kill on my resume, once again in my Thorax

Speaking of the BSOD triage carrier, I found a kill from their killborad that we got the last time they brought it in our system. (Nik must have forgot to post it) Notice how the Typhoon took 172K damage!

My favorite Thorax finally bit the dust

Tried to keep a point on a GCC Proteus at a gate, but our reinforcements were rather slow in the coming, and he got away.

The good news is that you had a replacement Thorax delivered to your hanger within 5 minutes and there are 5 more waiting in the Corp hanger.

I really want to try out this game, and I am thinking I will sign up for the free trial tonight. I was wondering if anyone was willing to guide me/help me out to get an understanding of this game?

Sure. My first suggestion is to do all the tutorial missions, and use all four of the tutorial agents in the beginning. You get 8 ships (if I remember right) and a bunch of skill books, plus experience in most of the fundamental basic aspects of the game.

Sounds like you guys had some fun Michael

This weekend was a mess for my corp, goons invaded the space we are renting cause it was one of their allies old space and the ally wanted it back now. So spent a good amount of time moving stuff out of the station to a safe location and doing lots and lots of scouting for our fleets. The whole thing is a mess lol, on the bright side I was able to make a great deal for the subsystems for my T3 Legion I'm training towards. Warp bubbles will be a thing of the past oh yes!

My Alliance was accepted into the Alliance tournament. So we'll get to compete against some of the best Alliances out there.

Any recommendations on a L4 Mission running Domi? I have nearly all defensive type skills up to let me use T2 equipment, but I won't be able to fit T2 rails on it, so I will be relying on Drones for my offense.

I'll try to find a good setup on the web, but I wanted to ask here as well for additional suggestions.

I am by no means a ship setup expert, but you really should train up those rails/blasters for your Domi, depending on what you will be using. This extra damage comes in handy. While you train for them, you might want to consider using tractor beams, drone link augmenters or vamps - all are nice. If you will only use drones, that's fine as well. My friend does that and he is fine. However, you need to have high skills in drones in order to be efficient. You cannot get away with T1 drones, and you don't want to skip on drone speed, durability, damage, etc. It is all very important and it is all very much needed. The Hobbies and Hammies do just too little damage, and die too fast without all their respective skills trained up, and the Ogres are just too damn slow without good skills.

You don't need T2 weapons for missions.

Martimus,

For my mission running domi, I barely use my guns except to get aggo. Drones do all the work. My T2 Ogres are the main weapon.

Highs are pretty much whatever you want, mids are either all cap recharger II's or all but one AB.

Lows are tank depending on the mission. I like a LARII (perma run), a 1600 plate, a DC II and then specific hardeners depending on the mission

rigs are either CCC or 2 x CCC and 1 aux nano pump to help your local repair.

Thanks. I did an EFT for the Domi, and found I could tank 450DPS with a single LARII. I had planned on running 2 of them, but 450DPS might be enough for me, and I won't need to keep 3 CCC's to make it cap stable. I was going to substitute the AB for a Drone tracking Control, so that my Ogres fly faster as well (since they are fat and slow).

Hey guys... I got a few questions here...

I'd like to get into PvP but I don't know where to start...

I've been a 100% carebear all this time - all my SP was poured into a Hulk and Raven. At this point I dont know what would be the best way for me to transition into PvP. Supposedly, Caldari Ships are no good for PvP, but I cant be bothered to cross train into guns after wasting so much time on missiles. It pisses me off how if I was Minmatar or Gallente spec, I could already easily do some PvP in something like a Rifter or a Thorax, but since I'm Caladari I have to have at least something like a Cerberus, and even that is no so good because this ship pales in comparison to other races' HACs, and would take a very long time for me to train since I don't have caldari cruiser at V anyway. (note, that I strongly prefer solo PvP rather than team based PvP)

Can I get some suggestions please? Shall I stay with Caldari and get to a Cerb? Should I start cross training into Minmatar? (they seem to be the most fun since a Rifter is already enough to have lots of fun and actually kill something)

Which ships are generally considered "kings" of SOLO PvP?

I'd try to get into a HAC. But yeah you're going to get raped out in lowsec if you're doing solo-anything.
